We were back again for dinner. it was a walk from the BART station, not especially pretty, but we noted some brand new spiffy apartment buildings. We arrived at a charming restaurant, which tells you that there are lots of resources and pleasant surprises in this vast part of the city. Everything is here.

This is the new downtown of SF, full of new skyscraper apartments, hotels, and offices. Also home of the terrific transit center and the elevated park, which you have to see. Plus the Yerba Buena Gardens with a park, shopping, a theater and a few excellent museums. A couple of cute residential neighborhoods. Lots here.

I worked in this neighborhood for years before I retired, but now it is so much more with lots of new apartments and a more sophisticated vibe. Don't miss the elevated park near Salesforce tower, SF's version of the High LIne. Lots of museums, bars and restaurants, plus the big convention center.

There is so much of the city in this neighborhood, parks, world class museums, fancy new apartment complexes, and the tallest skyscraper in town. But the best feature is the brand new elevated park at the transit center. The landscaping and peaceful areas are fabulous, and the city is all around you.

SoMa has a little bit of everything. Plenty of dining options along with great views of the bay. Easily accessible from downtown.

This is a major part of the city and contains lots of things to see and do: A bunch of new museums, the new transit center and park, classy restaurants, the extended Financial District, and the huge convention center. Some nice parks as well.

SoMa, or South of Market, is a vast, warehouse-filled district. It encompasses Mission Bay and South Beach, where the Giants play baseball at waterfront AT&T Park. Yerba Buena Gardens is located with an arts center, convention complex Moscone Center and several museums, including the acclaimed San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). The area is dotted with upscale dining options and high-energy nightclubs.

So much of modern SF development is here, a new financial district with huge skyscrapers, a new transit center with a fabulous elevated park, several world-class museums, lots of modern apartments with hip residents. Cool and expensive restaurants. You will need to come here.

This area really ruined San Francisco for us as we chose a hotel in Eight Street with Market Street. I´ve already reviewed the hotel - BEI - which was not bad in itself but the presence of crackheads on the pavement outside spoiled everything.

The wider SOMA district has little for the tourist apart from perhaps the Modern Art Museum area and adjoining park which is pleasant. The rest is just faceless streets filled with offices and stores at the better end of Howard Street and reception centers for the homeless and vagrants at the other end. I would recommend tourists to stay in other areas, perhaps around Alamo Square.
