Top ways to experience Marina District
The area
Neighborhood: Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.

We came here to visit a friend's nephew who lives in a lovely apartment in the middle of this classy neighborhood. We walked to dinner at a great restaurant, admiring the street vibe. People around. Nice place on a Friday night, known for a singles scene.

Some good architecture in this area, and it is fairly flat so you can wander around and maybe do a tour. The shopping street is Chestnut with bars and restaurants. High rent area.

We returned to the Mission District and had a great time. There is the Palace of Fine Arts. We also went to the Fort Mason Center.
Then we spent time at the Marina Green area. There are awesome views of both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. There is also the small boat harbor.
There are interesting mansions also to see.

This is one of San Francisco's best neighborhoods, a good place to live if you can afford it. Not a lot of tourist attractions here other than the Palace of Fine Arts, which is good for shows, if something is there.

We went to the Marina District. This area has good views of the Bay and of the Golden Gate Bridge. Marina Green is in this area for a walk.
There is the small craft harbor.
The homes that face the Bay are historically beautiful.
This is also where Fort Mason, Palace of Fine Arts, shops, and some restaurants/cafes are located.
There is free parking at the Marina Green Area. From there one can also see a good view of Alcatraz.

I enjoyed walking around this high-end residential neighborhood with its stunning homes (complete with stratospheric prices), quiet streets and leafy parks. Highlights are the Palace of Fine Arts (simply for the architecture), proximity to the water and stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

An impressive building that’s stand high and domineering in the local area. Couldnt get in on the day we visited as a event was going on. Ideal place for a quick visit but not for any length of time. The plinths and done are very detailed and has been maintained well over the years. Only criticism was the lack of detailed information as to what it was originally built for apart from a few paragraphs on a board... perhaps there was more inside that we didn’t get to see.

The scenic Marina District, on the city’s northern shore, is known for its upbeat bars and restaurants. Fort Mason, a former military base, is an arts complex and event space. A grassy park, called Marina Green, has a running and bike path and expansive views of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and yachts on the water. The Palace of Fine Arts, dating back to 1915, is a neoclassical landmark

This is a fun spot to play catch, ride a bike, walk, etc. Parking can be hard to come by on weekends with nice weather.

So I have this weird thing for raccoons, I love feeding them, where is the best place to find raccoons in the marina district of San Francisco, reliably? Please resist the urge to make fun of me and do your best to provide any input you could, this would really make my day and I need some cheering up.
Thank you!

I can not guarantee raccoon sightings but would think that the area around the Palace of Fine Arts might; if not, I think that the area around Fort Mason might fit the bill.

Hi there, please can i ask if all one bed rooms (with balconies) and full kitchens are the Bora Bora rooms? Also, are all of these ground floor or do they go up? Also, are you permitted to smoke on your balcony? Thank you!
