Neighborhood: Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.

    Iconic!
We couldn't come to San Francisco and not visit Lombard Street - the crooked street! We used the cable cars to get dropped off at the top and walked down. We didn't have great weather, but it honestly didn't matter. Steps down both sides of the street make it a lot easier for pedestrians, but it does get busy!

The Crooked Street in San Fransisco
It is an interesting solution to make cars move slower. The street itself, arrangement of residential area, and landscape planning are quite successfull. It is worth to visit and walk alone the Lombard Street.

We were so glad we still had our rental car for this!
We were so glad we still had our rental car for this! We own the Thomas Kinkade painting of San Francisco and it felt so cool to view it from the same perspective and then drive the crazy turns. People were watching us and it was really cool and beautiful

    Amazing street
This is obviously the world's most zigzag road and it's been famous for it, for a long time. If you have the opportunity to come to San Francisco, you cannot ignore this attractive tourist destination. You will find it extremely interesting with the lines of cars running zigzag from the top down the slope, and interspersed with beautiful flower beds. And yet, you also feel the steep streets, a very characteristic point of San Francisco. Great experiences.

A treat in the middle of SF - those Zig Zags !
What a wonderful surprise to drive down this street. You definitely need to pay attention to your driving, as the zig zags are intense. The houses on this street, multi-million dollar dwellings are beautifully landscaped. While pretty, wouldn't want to live on this street, just for the traffic from tourists, and getting in and out of your driveway. A must-see and must-do when in SF. if you don't have a car, not a problem, lots of opportunities to take some amazing selfies.

Fun to Drive Down This Winding Little Street
Popular landmark to take visitors from out of town. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and hit a lot of traffic getting to Lombard Street and then getting to the Bay Bridge to go home. But it was still fun driving down this historic landmark.

    Avoid the hype, nothing special!
There really isn’t much to this place. We came for the photos but really after a couple of mins taking a photo we felt it wasn’t worth the hassle - it’s a bit out of the way to get to if you’re not driving and the terrain in the area is very hilly. We walked from Fisherman’s wharf and it wasn’t worth it really.

    Great View
There are a lot of people that walk to the street, so you have to be very careful not only of the curves but also your fellow tourists. We were in a line of about fifteen cars, so didn’t wait a long time for our turn. The view is AMAZING. I would recommend going over if you get a chance while in San Francisco.

Really Unusual Street with a Great View
We drove down Lombard Street on our visit to San Francisco. It is sometimes known as the crookedest street because it winds downhill in almost switchback fashion. The homes in the area are charming and the street is unusual. It is worth a visit if you can drive there. There are a lot of tourists who walk it and you have to watch for pedestrians. I am not sure if I would feel comfortable walking it because of the mix of cars and pedestrians.

    Be ready to Exercise
So if you love to walk try walking up Lombard St from China Town. We started at Washington Square . I'm a little too old for steep walks but I did make it to the bottom of the switchback. My two grandchildren actually ran to the top. the views are amazing and I was tired at the end. Get exercise !

Lombard street is a San Francisco classic. Featured in many films. There is not much to it really-a one way winding street through a very pretty neighbourhood. But you’ve got to go there on a SF walk or catch the cable car.

The alledged crookedest street in the world. One way traffic downhilled with great view of Coit Tower in front of you. Tons of tourists-some walking down the road so you need to be very careful. Glad I don't live on the street-trying to get in and out of your garage must be almost impossible. Beautiful gardening at every turn. Major photo opportunity

Just know one thing- most natives know it isn't even the crookedest street in San Francisco. Vermont Street is and there are no tourists there.

I have visited about 12 major cities in the USA 🇺🇸 since 1985 and San Francisco in California is one of the most splendid cities that I have even seen in the USA 🇺🇸 that needs a special mention.
The city is known for its steep rolling hills and eclectic mix of architecture across varied neighborhoods, as well as its cool summers, fog, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz, along with the Chinatown. Lombard Street is known for the one-way block on Russian Hill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets, where eight sharp turns are said to make it the most crooked street in the world. It was very exciting to visit this street that was distinctly unique and it was a travellers delight !

This is one of those streets that you've known about for years and you know will be a big tourist attraction. We didn't drive down it on our most recent trip to San Francisco, but we walked alongside it and got to see it, which was neat. It seems like a bit of a pain to actually drive down it since it's crazy busy and you're just sitting in traffic, but it's nice to actually see something that you've known about for years.

The steepest street in the US! So much fun to go down, it's like a rollercoaster! But the Russian Hill neighborhood is so beautiful to admire this is a must experience attraction; it's not just a street, it's a cultural experience!

We wanted to see this has had heard all about it from friends.
Ideal location to get to by Muni or Cable Car. Walked up the stairs one side to the top, got some more photos and then walked down the stairs the other side.
Nice free must do activity when visiting San Francisco.

Classic San Francisco thing to do.

We rented e bikes from a bike rental spot and then went down. Tons of fun and the cars didn’t give us any issues.

Very busy with tourists and its quite a novelty street with its several bends. Folks enjoy driving down.

I think the best thing about it is the view across to Coit Tower. There's some pretty houses here covered in flowers too.

I travelled to SF for the first time and had always heard about Lombard street so I wanted to check it out! Let me tell you.. I’m in pretty good shape as I’m only 21 years old, but I was absolutely dying making my way up to this sight. It’s about a 40 minute walk purely uphill, so steep to the point where you feel like it’d be easier to crawl up. This walk is not for the weak let me tell you, I was struggling immensely. We got to the view and there was quite a few people there, however the street was a lot more different looking than what I had seen online, due to the angle of the street you couldn’t really get the whole vision. I reluctantly climbed the straps up Lombard Street to get a better view, I had to climb those stairs as if I was a toddler, taking one step at a time because I was SO exhausted. The view at the top is gorgeous, yet it’s still not a great view of the street itself. I would say overall this experience wasn’t very worth it and I wish I had gone to see the Painted Ladies instead, purely because the view of the street itself was very difficult to see, however still very gorgeous!
