- brewster502Bristol, United Kingdom67 contributionsThe backdrop view is the real attraction. We got a morning bus from downtown which dropped us off around the corner from the Painted Ladies. We couldn’t find them at first as they really do not stand out from the rest of the houses. We walked up to the park opposite for a better view if the houses and that’s when we realised that the real attraction is the backdrop view you get from there of the cuty skyline. We were told afterwards that the colour of the houses look better in the evening sun.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 25, 2024
- goldenparadoxPasadena, Maryland587 contributionsIconic views and beautiful parkI stopped by Almo Park via the hop-on/hop-off bus to see the Painted Ladies. Short walk from the stop and it was easy to find the side of the park where you can see them. After taking the pictures I came to take, I looked around and realized that Alamo Park is actually quite beautiful. Gorgeous views of the whole city and filled with beautiful and fragrant trees and flowers. It would be the perfect spot for a picnic, to read a book or simply rest for 30 minutes during your site seeing. There were bathrooms but were disgusting, so I didn't use them, since I didn't "really have to go".Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 29, 2024
- Family AdventuresGeelong, Australia230 contributionsDefinitely worth seeingWe visited the Painted Ladies on a Monday morning and found it to be a great time to stop by. It was quiet and there was plenty of space to take photos. There is also a nice playground nearby for children of different ages.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 9, 2024

The Painted Ladies are a row of Victorian houses famous for appearing in the opening credits of Full House. The houses are quite nice and well maintained compared to others in San Francisco. The view of the houses and the skyline in the background is also very nice.

Not sure why this is a "thing" other than the contrasting view of the houses in the forefront representing historic San Francisco and the city behind representing new/future San Francisco. There is a nice park across the street. Views from this vantage point are good, but really, we did not think this was worth the time it took to drive out of our way. However, since the Painted Ladies are on almost every postcard and magnet, we felt the need to take a look.

What exactly is the appeal of the Painted Ladies? They are a group of Victorian-style homes in a city filled with Victorian-style homes. There are plenty of other places around San Francisco to see non-official "painted ladies," including ones that look a little more spectacular than these apparently famous ones. I guess at the very least, they are in a nice neighborhood with a park across the street.

While we took friends visiting here from CT to many neighborhoods with victorians, they wanted to see these. They are icons of San Francisco as they have similar architecture but painted differently.
And loved a previous person gave the history on the artist who created the ways these were painted.
For those visiting with cars, do NOT leave ANYTHING in your car, especially if at ANY tourist location.
If you're interested in architecture, see the gorgeous homes in Pacific Heights!

We climb to the top of Alamo Square and look down over the beautiful painted Lady Victorians for a view of the city. We walked around the blocks and we’re impressed with each large magnificent home and the city in the background. Even the view of City Hall

This iconic landmark is free to visit and worth a quick stop if you are in the area.
Parking is available on the street and availability was good when we visited.
To get a good view of the painted ladies, we walked into the park directly opposite them.

Took the number 5 bus from market street here because it’s a loooong walk otherwise. I had read reviews that it wasn’t worth the trip but I’m only here once so thought I would do it. Anyway- totally not worth the trip. No idea why this is a ‘thing’ at all. The houses were nothing different to others elsewhere and work was being done on one. Couldn’t even go to Alamo Park because it was full of aggressive sounding teens.

These row houses made famous from a TV series, there is so much nicer architecture thought the city. Why These?
While this is a must tourist stop it is underwhelming, leaves passers by bewildered why they picked these houses. Could it be park across the street which makes it easy for TV producers to take pictures? Could it be the SF skyline in background? Not sure, but defiantly not the best kept up buildings or the most iconic SF architecture.
Take a ride by ... 5 min walk and you will be wondering the same.

I watched a lot of Full House and so this was something I wanted to see. We drove by on our way out of town since it's more of a photo-op than an actual stop unless you want to spend some time in Alimo Park. The houses are cute and worth the stop if you are a fan of architecture or looking for filming sites in the city.

Our hostess in the hotel didn't understand why the Painted Ladies are so famous. Well, because of the view, perhaps? It's true you will find many more houses like this in the city, but these are just built on the right spot. And that makes the ladies really charming.

Is there a good place nearby that you can buy food to eat in this park? Or is there any restaurant to eat watching the park outside?

Hello everybody,
Do you know if there is any car park near ? We can't take the bus because after we go to the aero port, thank you :)
Written August 7, 2018
Hello. In the street there are parking machines. The problem is that you can’t leave valuable things inside the car because of robbery.

Would anyone happen to know when specifically the Alamo park is set to reopen?
Written September 3, 2016
It is open now. Reopened a couple months ago (summer 2017).
