The amount of people and traffic in Acadia NP near Bar Harbor can be a bit overwhelming. We took two side trips to Schoodic Peninsula and thoroughly enjoyed this calm and less traveled area of the park. There is a nice driving loop with lots...More

We visited Arcadia National Park on Desert Island, but a Park Ranger recommended visiting Schoodic Peninsula. It takes an hour to get there, but it was worth the trip. Make a stop at Frazer Pond and more stops along the one-way road around the peninsula...More

We visited on a dreary rainy day, so did not get to spend the time we really wanted to. Scenery is equally beautiful to the mainland part of the park, just different.

Rural, less visited side of the park, there is a one way loop around the peninsula which hugs the rocky shoreline. Not much for services there so bring a picnic.

Wonderful campground, with bus ride to schoodic point! What a view.......five stars. We had a large camp spot with electric book up. Clean restrooms and large information center.

Sure you're going to want to see the main part of Acadia NP on Mt Desert Island. But this is the place to experience a great rocky seashore without the crowds (or at least they aren't quite as bad).

The day we drove the Schoodic Peninsula was rainy and cold but in my opinion that just made it more beautiful!
