About
Founded in 1950 as a fruit stand, the Dole Plantation in central Oahu now draws travelers to its famous pineapple harvests and open-air Pineapple Express Train. Sign up for an educational tour to learn how the fruit of Hawaii is grown, its rich history, and agricultural practices. After that, stroll in the giant pineapple-shaped garden maze lined with 14,000 fruits. Don’t leave without buying some pineapples and sampling the original pineapple Dole Whip. The pineapple salsa and jam make great souvenirs, too. – Tripadvisor

    Not bad good for family
It was fun of course everything was a little pricey in the shop but the maze was pretty cheap like $9. And it is the worlds largest maze so that’s also kinda cool they have great pineapple drink of course it was fun but definitely more for kids than adults. And parking was hard to find.

Non Hawaiian Pizza Fans will Leave Loving Hawaiian Pizza
We had a blast here. It was surprising to see RED pineapples. The gardens were so beautiful. The food was sweet and delicious. We tasted a lot of items: classic Dole Whip, Dole Whip Float, Pineapple Chili Dog, Hawaiian Pizza and the Pork Pizza. Yum to all! If you try ONE, I vote the Hawaiian Pizza and that's because I DON'T EVEN EAT HAWAIIAN PIZZA!! I gave them a 4 out of 5 because the train wait was over an hour! Maybe because it was peak time. Not sure but I'm sure in the morning the waits are shorter. Maybe they should consider timed tickets to minimize the wait or get another train to expedite the line. There was ONE train.

    Nice setting
The place we really nice going through the garden, train, maze was really cool. The ice cream was very good as well. The only downside was the lack of soap in the bathrooms there. The bathrooms should be maintained better especially since there are so many people that visit the place daily.

Come for the Dole Whip, stay for the rampant colonialism!
Come for the Dole Whip, stay for the feral cats and rampant colonialism. The train tour is so corporate, it's cringe inducing. Right down to the pop song about Dole pineapples. Let's just ignore their role in how Hawaii got screwed over. The only saving grace of this place is that the gift shop features stalls run by local artists and artisans. Plus, a lot of the items sold directly by Dole with their branding is locally produced.

This is one big market to sell you overpriced Dole branded products, trinkets, overpriced souvenirs and snacks. There is a train ride through the farm for $14.00 per adult. My nephew wanted to ride and we spent 1 1/2 hours waiting on a line for the ride. I've been on it before and find it to be enjoyable and but nothing special. Another made up must visit due to the hype. In reality you won't be missing anything if you don't visit.

    Cute sightseeing stop
We visited the Dole Plantation as a quick stop and for lunch. The train ride throughout the plantation was very nice. Lots of different crops growing in the fields. I would definitely recommend the train ride. Although the line may look very long, it does move quickly. We did not do the maze or the gardens. We do see the gardens on the train. Lunch was excellent and pretty reasonably priced. Dole whip is a must!!!!!!! Gift shop is very big and lots of really nice souvenirs. We spent about 2-3 hours and felt it was plenty of time. Tickets cannot be reserved and have to buy in person on the day you visit. I would recommend getting there around the time they open as it was very busy when we were leaving.

Don't expect much besides the gift shop
We were expecting this place to be more than basically a huge gift shop. I expected some information about growing, harvesting etc. Nothing like that. We did enjoy the Dole whip but the line was long waiting to get it.

    Quick & Easy Visit
We did the train and garden. Nothing special, something nice to do and learn more about the dole plantation. This is great for kids and elderly. Arrive early, parking is limited. Train wait time can go up to an hour or more. If you’re going to plan this, plan other things to do in the North Shore as well.

Very pleasant day and learned a lot! Took the train ride and enjoyed lunch in the nearby town. It is a long drive to the Plantation, but it was very comfortable and gave us a chance to see much of the island.

I experienced an extremely long wait for the train due to mechanical problems. Once we finally boarded, the passenger cars derailed twice. The tracks are clearly in serious need of maintenance, and these derailments pose significant safety concerns. To their credit, they did issue a refund, but we had to endure another long line to receive it. Despite these issues, they continue to run the train with new passengers, which raises further questions about their commitment to safety and proper service.

Very interesting insight into farming in Hawaii. A good and pleasant experience, although it was quite crowded and we had to wait well over an hour for the train ride.

This place was way more crowded than I thought it would be, and the wait to get on the train was pretty long. But...to my surprise! It was sort of worth it because I got to see a part of Hawaii I would never have seen with a car. The train ride was a good length and it was interesting to see a bit of 'old Hawaii' that is somewhat untouched. Interesting. And you MUST try to the DOLE WHIP...delicious! And no dairy, which thrilled me, since I can't have it. My suggestion? DON'T go in the summer...go when it's not so crowded.

We were looking forward to visiting as friends had said it was an interesting place. They must have come at a different time. This experience was horrendous.
Pros - the property is nice to look at and the customers seemed to be able to remain pleasant in spite of the Cons.
-the Dole Whip was refreshing
-the rest rooms were clean

Cons- the parking is outrageously abysmal. We spent about 30 minutes trying to park. They have another lot but it was closed off, and they should take another couple of acres of their huge farm and make more parking. There was no excuse for the mess they have made of parking (rows are very narrow, cars got stuck trying to pass, etc.)

-the maze is ok, sort of fun but they have secret spots to find and there is always a line up when you find one as the recording of your location (on app or on paper) is inefficient. Easy to get out of it though.

-the train - don’t don’t don't’. What an incredibly badly planned process. We stood in the blazing noon sun for over an hour waiting to get under the shelter (and then there was more wait). How about some shelter along the main wait area? The train loads and unloads incredibly slowly. Every amusement park around has a system where you line u and enter your roller coaster seat (or similar) directly, not this stuff long line and then you have to wait for a staff member to direct you and unclip a simple chain. Why can’t we load in multiple rows at once. Also, although the info we heard was interesting it was very hard to hear over the sound of the rails. Better system would help. Train takes 22 minutes, total wait time was about 1.5 hours. So not worth it (and too hot)

-not enough staff for the food purchase.

-And then the pineapple, the food we were waiting for was bland and close to tasteless, surely Dole could have some sweet delicious pineapple for sale.

So disappointed

Visited here during our anniversary trip. It was crowded and blazing hot. Not much to do as far as activities except walk around and see how the pineapple industry started. Hawaii has a rich history and a lot to offer. This can honestly be skipped

First off parking was a nightmare. My husband and I chose not to do the tours or train because the line was so long. We did enjoy the little patch of growing pineapples we could see along with the plaques describing different facts for Dole and pineapple. The gift shop definitely had something for everyone. Quick stop on our way to the shrimp trucks.

This is an interesting place to visit along with the thousands of others stopping daily, but it is unique and worth it. You can stroll the grounds to see beautiful gardens, samples of pineapple varieties from around the world, see how pineapples are grown and learn about how large this industry formerly was on this island.
The gift shop is extensive and there are plenty of food items available with seating outside.
This is really a piece of Hawaiian history and worth seeing.

Really wanted to love this… very pretty place, fabulous gift shop, cute train ride thru plantation, kind employees. . But.the.parking.is.absurd!! The crowds waiting in line for food. Then there aren’t baby changing tables in bathroom or anywhere! Whaaat??? Then exited train there are no ramps to maneuver ones stroller… had to pick it up and walk down 4 stairs. I was there 7 yrs ago and loved it ….such a different experience this time around.

We visited this tourist spot back in 2010 and I don’t remember it being the large advertising machine it’s become. It’s a massive merchandise store now with loads of tourists buying all things pineapple. One of our daughters made a pressed penny for fun and we of course had to partake in the Dole whip ice cream. Outside the store there’s a train to ride which takes you around the pineapple fields, a large maze and some gardens where you can view the varieties of pineapples growing. We bought a few pineapple items for gifts but it’s not a must do. I wish we would have stopped at the large market area across the street from this as they had pineapples for $3. Dole charges almost $60 to ship 2 pineapples.
