The "hike" up to the Lanikai pillboxes (more like a walk) is well worth it. The path is relatively easy and straight forward and the views from Makapu'u down to Kailua are beautiful. I recommend an early rise and hike so you reach the pillboxes...More

To catch the sunrise, one has to wake up really early and hike up a trail which can be sometimes slippery with nothing to hold on to. I’m quite surprised there weren’t much safety measures in place for such a popular spot. You come up...More

Rainy day, so muddy for sure. Think slip and slide, but with mud! Starts out steep but there are ropes and some branches for support. When you get tricky terrain you'll have more traction. I spent 1 1/2 hours but took my time and stopped...More

Did hike with my 6 year son and it was great. We parked down near the water and walked to the hikes starting point. The hike it self was easy and the views were great. For the more adventurous hiker you can keep on going...More

Loved this hike! Gorgeous views. Dress appropriately, take water, and do it early, then go to brunch! I believe it has just closed for repairs though.

Wonderful views, gets very busy and very Hot (don't do it in the middle of the day) Make sure you head down to Lanikai Beach for a swim after.

As hikes go, this one gives you a terrific view after a relatively short hike. The downside is there is extremely limited parking, and in the past several years this hike has become a victim of it's own popularity. It is way too crowded. It's...More

Got an urge to get up extremely early, hike up a hill, and catch the sunrise? Then you cannot miss going to the Pillboxes Hike in Kailua. This is an exposed hike that is fairly easy to navigate. Be careful near the top as the...More

The hike is a bit treacherous to be honest. There are some steep parts and you don't want to go after a rain. There are drop offs so going with the kids (1,4,6) made me quite nervous. But the views!!! Wow!! You can see so...More

Spent six hours on a plane. Got situated in hotel and took off on this hike. It's not a very difficult hike but all the other folks on the trail were in their 20s and 30s. The trail starts off with some forsaken ropes and...More

I think our kids at that would really have loved this hike! But can't imagine trying to do it in flip flops! There are some steep spots!

This is an unofficial, unmaintained "trail" as I & others mentioned. Treacherous when wet, unsuitable for casual "strollers" & folks who are not physically fit, safest with hiking footwear. As such, no fees, nor parking. I... More
