Old style township with nice selection of shops and eateries. Quaint style and not built up. Good place to stop for a bite and walk around.

To clarify, this is a review of the town of Haleiwa and not the shopping mall that goes by this name. Folksy surfer town and tourist center along the North Shore. Many good restaurants, shops and other eateries to be found. Uncle Bo's was excellent for dinner and Haleiwa Bowls served up delicious acai bowls. Many shrimp trucks to choose from and we enjoyed Camaron Shrimp. Aoki Shaved Ice was a terrific place as well.

Cute city with tons of little stores, food trucks and interesting places to see. This is a nice little tour to add to your North shore trip to Oahu. We came here after a day in the beach and took a nice walk in the stores, galleries and little restaurants.

Matsumoto's is the reason you stop here, as they have the best shaved ice on all of Oahu, possibly all of Hawaii. There are a few shops here as well, but my main issue is there really are no places to sit with your shaved ice, nor are there truly any places to take cover from the elements. We got caught here during a torrential rain covering all of Oahu, and there were few places to be able to seek shelter from the rain here...

Located along the main drag in Haleiwa, there are several tourist/gift shops, restaurants, Long’s Drug store, a couple banks and more.

Ugh—ick. Haleiwa is ill prepared for visitors. The parking is punishing and complicated. Access to public restrooms is fraught, embattled and usually disgusting. The proliferation of food trucks has escalated a charming legacy and made it grasping, over populated and probably under-supported. Purists would argue that the charm is that it’s authentic but there is no balance when the village does not keep up with demands. They promote and expect your visit but once you’re there it’s a minefield.

Yesterday my partner and I had our car towed away from the parking lot at Ace Hardware. We had just bought two items there, and asked if they had a restroom. We were told we would have to go "across the street", though actually we had to go down the road and wait in a long line. Anyway, while walking back to Ace's we saw our car get towed by! Long story short, we had to get an Uber car for a ten mile drive to the house where the car was taken, then pay $175 for the release of our car! Several phone calls were to no avail, and when we tried to talk to Ace staff they said there was nothing they could do. Huh? You contract with a company to tow away vehicles and there is nothing you can do?

Anyway, looking into the situation via the Internet we learned that others have had the same problem in Haleiwa for several years. The issue is apparently complicated by the fact that some citizens are reluctant to object because the owner of the land where the cars are taken is a state senator, and the owner of the towing company and his wife are big in the local Rotary Club.

What an amazing little town....we were on a tour and did not have time to stop and take all of it in except for shave ice with ice cream at the bottom at Matsumotos. Looked like it was stuck in time in the early 60”s.....really a place to be explored and spend time.
