It was a bit difficult getting to this beach at first using Apple maps (we originally had Ewa Beach inputted). We accidentally stopped at a homeless encampment which was awkward at best. There was an army of stray dogs who followed my family around. Fortunately, none of us got bitten. A few minutes later, we saw that there were more cars parked down the road and less tents, so we hopped back into my car and drove down to that parking lot. We were fortunate that my car didn’t get broken into. The area we decided to watch the sunset consisted of mostly tourists and a few locals. I have lived in Hawaii for two years and didn’t even know this beach existed. It’s a very beautiful beach, however, I would recommend bringing a buddy or two just to be safe. I would recommend going to Electric Beach (to snorkel), Mermaids Cove (to swim/snorkel), Pokai Bay (swim friendly for little kids), or Kaena Point (mostly flat and easy 5 mile hike with no shade and stunning beach/mountain views) to watch the sunset instead.

We stopped here to eat lunch and watch the waves. It's a nice long narrow beach. Parts of it have a lot of people living on the beach, but we drove on past and found a parking area and a quiet stretch. A few surfers and paddlers on the water, a family or two here and there, but otherwise the beach was empty. Not bad.

Rocky shore makes this beach less attractive to those less experience swimmers looking to stay near shore. Bring tabis to protect your feet! Sunset view depending on the time of year.

This beach park could be beautiful, but right now, it's disgusting and not safe. There are a lot of "homeless" people camping there, lots of trash everywhere, several abandoned rusting cars and appliances, a lot of druggies - buyers, sellers and users -

Just a total shame the City of Honolulu is not permanently cleaning up and sending all these zombies to jail or somewhere else. It could be such a great place for local families if it would be clean and properly maintained.

This Place is Nice, Far from the City and close to Nature. With Diamond Head in the background and Planes flying in the tourist, You have the beach at your feet. Pack a lunch and wax up your surfboard! No lifeguard or working restroom, less is more.

This beach is somewhat rocky at the waters edge. Waves are usually small. Most of the people that go here are locals for surfing and fishing. Biggest down are the restrooms. Port-a-Pottys! But they are kept kinda clean.

There are reviews that talk about broken glass and drug use - and well we went anyway. We stayed only minutes away and this became for us a daily stop to get in some waves. The beach and lot were clean, the locals were very friendly and polite. We saw no drug use, or other things.

But to be fair, it is not set up for an all day family outing, if there was a bathroom - I didn't notice. The locals do have a rack for washing off your surfboard, and there is a shower tower.

If you are looking for a family destination with bathrooms and picnic benches nearby, I would recommend White Plains - (it's the next beach over and I suppose in a different town - but I can't tell a difference)

Regardless, it would be smart if you are surfing to be polite, and careful - there are some exposed coral.

I live on O'ahu so I've explored a lot of the lesser known beaches. Oneula beach park or "Hau Bush" is not a place you'd want to take your family. The waves are ok, but that's about it. This beach is filled with trash, there's a homeless encampment, and it's just not a nice place.

With all of the other beautiful, safe, and cleaner beaches on this island, there is no reason to ever go to this one unless you are wanting to get your car windows smashed.

Oneula Beach Park, better know to locals as Hao Bush, is not what I would call "family" friendly. If you're there to surf or fish, it's a great place. But if you're going there with the family and a bunch of kids, it's not the best place around. There is Ewa Beach Park all the way into Ewa Beach at the end of Fort Weaver Road and White Plains beach in Barber's Point, which is much more family friendly. Oneula Beach Park is known for a lot of homeless and druggies. If you are a visitor, I would stay away from this place. Your rental car is a dead giveaway and a target for break in.
