A quaint orchid garden with an amazing display of many types of orchids. The colors were most impressive. Not a particularly large venue, however. Be careful of the time of your visit though - when we went, it was only open for 4 hours on two days of the week.

What a special place to view for free many lovely orchids, as well as the $20,000 one! The scent of the orchids is in the air. Prices seemed reasonable for pots of orchids, instructions on soil and care, as well as packages of soil for the pot. A nice gift shop as well.

Marcy was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and process of developing orchids. She helped us understand which orchids were best for our property on the Big Island. The shop is also a garden showroom. You can even have an orchid named after you (for $1000). They develop about 10 new varieties a year.

Made a short stop here whist on our way to the Volcanoes National Park, during an Island Tour. Quite a little gem really, as the owners take a great pride in being a major producer and displayer of a wide variety of Orchids. Not really my cup of tea, but my wife really enjoyed it. Some nice aromas about the place, and decent gift shop. Worth a visit;on main road to Volcanoes

I used to grow orchids in my home. One too many moves stopped my ability to keep them going.
We more love in Florida in the best climate for some of them.
They have an amazing staff. They want to help educate everyone who comes through there door.
While I bought nothing in this trip, I will be ordering in the coming months.
A must stop if you love flowers...
And.. There is a great good truck outside. But your lunch or snack and enjoy it inside the orchid gallery. They have a lovely setting for you to enjoy.
Thanks Geneva for the next chapter in my orchid education.

During the past couple years, we've stopped at Akatsuka Orchid Gardens on our way back from the Volcano National Park. They have a wonderful self-guided educational tour about orchids. The variety and beauty is amazing. Mary is terrific and I highly recommend the stop.

For anyone with an interest in Orchids, this is a must see. The atmosphere remains one of a family business, with the air of professionalism and intimate knowledge of the plants. The staff were kind and generous with their time - why didn't I ask names?? - and were happy to help me understand how to manage the orchids I already have as well as which ones were good bets to grow as a hobby in Maine. Beautiful plants, gorgeous blooms, warm staff. Filled with Aloha! Thanks-

Nice short stop about halfway between Hilo and Volcanoes NP. If you have any interest in gardening or botany in general, this is a MUST SEE. The orchids are perfect, absolutely amazing. Nice gift shop too.

At this store, you can see, learn, buy and get a history lesson about orchids and everything associated with them. The Akatsuka’s have
“invented” many new varieties of orchids. So beautiful, wish we could take some home . There is no charge to enter store and there is a large parking lot. Tuk Tuk Thai food truck is located in this parking lot.

This was once a large beautiful orchid store that you could freely browse, giving you the option to look at and buy gorgeous orchids and other tropical plants.

Now they cut down the size of the store by 2/3rd and charge you $5/person to look around. Worse, they market it as an "orchid maze", which is actually no maze at all. Instead, it's a few tables of orchids you simply walk around.

I wish I could get my money back.
