Started here accidentally but nice protected swim cove safe from most waves. Good swimming area and practice snorkeling. Shallow. Some fish near rocks.

It's changed over the years. There were more and closer tide pools 8 years ago!! However, my grandson ((5 years old) enjoyed our stay there - swimming and looking in the tidepools for fishes and sea urchins. The water is calm because it is enclosed...More

We stopped by here after visiting Carlsmith and Richardson beaches. It was less crowded than the other 2 beaches and appeared to have more local people. Parking was easy (not as crowded). The area is protected from the big waves and it had several pools...More

Water here is so clear I was able to take detailed pictures of a young wrasse from above water. Larger beach than I thought, and will return there on a future trip.

This tide pool has lots of “pockets” to choose from, in different sizes and depths. The kids were swimming in the Pacific Ocean in a safe setting - cannot beat that!

This beach is super calm and super protected with a large rock "wall". Great for kids, not good for snorkeling.

We were on the search for a picnic spot in or near Hilo and this location came up in Trip Advisor. This was a great park just a mile if that out of town. There were covered pavilions with picnic tables and BBQ grills and...More

We love this beach for our little ones. They can stand in shallow water with no waves. Also there is grass to lounge on with some white sandy beach and grills to have a picnic.

Most of the beaches in Hilo have only small pockets of sand. Onekahakaha is different. It has a long breakwater that protects quite a large sandy area. Depending on tides, the whole area can be scarcely 2' deep. It's perfect for little kids or, in...More
