    Really enjoyed it
I really enjoyed this. I especially like the cave to the left when you come down the stairs. They say you can walk well over a mile in this cave. It is very dark and can be hard to walk in some areas. Bring good shoes and a cellphone with a light at the minimum. We saw some with a head lamp which was much brighter. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

    Fun, free activity
This is another fun, free activity to do with a family of teens. You park across the street from the entrance. To get into the lava tubes, you have to descend some stairs. Then the walk into the caves is a bit uneven. I would recommend bringing a flash light. The light on my cell phone was not enough. I am not in good shape, but I was able to get far enough in that I enjoyed it, but my older parents did not venture very far in.

    Enter another world!
Long ago, these caves held molten lava rivers that made their way down the mauna. As the crust formed over top, a cave and tunnel system formed. The volcanic rocks, oxides, and plant life make you feel you're in a prehistoric jungle. So beautiful! Wear good shoes with traction for this is a wet place and the stairs leading down can be slippery. Take a flashlight and use your night function on your camera to get some great shots.

    Neat experience!
This cave was so neat to walk around in! It's just one you go to and walk around yourself; no guide or anything. My husband and I walked pretty deep into the cave using just our phone flash flights. It's an old Lava tube, so unlike a cave carved out by water, the ground is very rocky, there aren't many smooth areas. If you visit with small children or ederly people, I would stay near the beginning of the cave, as when you go in deeper there's some areas you have to climb over rocks or get on your hands and knees and crawl through. Also remember, this is on the Island of Hawaii, where land is sacred, so be responsible and respectful!

    Amazing
We liked this cave (lava tube) as much or more than Thurston in the park. It was raining when we went, but it didn't feel unsafe inside. We only went left and, while it looks like the entrance is about as far as you'd want to go because you have to duck and use your hands a bit to navigate, that's the only place you have to use your hands or get that low for about .2 miles. At that point, there are a bunch of large rocks and it gets narrower, and we chose not to go any further. After that lower spot near entrance, there's only one other spot where you even have to duck for a few feet, but there's no squeezing into tight spaces and getting on your hands and knees, much less your stomach. As others have said, bring a light or two.

    Beautiful to see
My husband and I visited this cave and were lucky enough to arrive as a very talented violinist was setting up at the opening to film a video. the sound echoed off the cave and we got to enjoy it from inside the cave. It was beautiful inside, but we’d have only been able to see because we wore a headlamp as suggested. The steps going down were a little steep and the cave bottom was slippery

    Fun but be careful
Much better than other lava tubes that we’ve done. The right side is pretty crazy! Definitely want a good flash light and shoes. Make sure you always keep you eyes on the ground because you have to place each step correctly due to uneven surfaces and levels. Also watch out you don’t hit your head like I did! Left side is much easier to walk with more flat surfaces. Very cool tubes!

    Interesting
I wouldn't put this on a must see list. It was interesting, but be sure to bring a headlight, after a certain point your phone will not be enough. The stairs going down are also very narrow. I also wish there was some indication on the history of the caves.

Great Scenery - Fun - Excellent Exploration Opportunity - Easy to Access - FREE!
A very cool cave for you to explore. There is no admission fee, it is completely free to visit and explore at your own pace or comfort level. Across the street from the cave is a small parking lot for free parking. Once you get across the street (carefully) there is a steep staircase that goes down into the entrance of the cave, where you can choose to go left or right. I believe the entire path inside the cave goes around to each side. It is pitch dark once you get a little bit along in the cave. You'll need a flashlight, and your cell phone flashlight doesn't really work to guide you through the cave. you'll need a real, handheld flashlight. There were people leaving the cave and they were nice enough to pass along their flashlight to those of us arriving empty handed. This is a great idea, as who wants to pack a flashlight for the flight home from Hawaii? No one really, and a good flashlight for the cave wouldn't cost more than $10. Next time I go to the cave, I'm returning the favor by bringing a flashlight with me and passing on to the next explorers. Once you have secured a flashlight, you can head into the cave as fast as you feel comfortable. It is a real cave. so, there are a lot of rocks, dripping water and more of what you would expect to find in a cave. You may not want to navigate too far if you aren't comfortable walking on the slippery rocks. If you have a fear of tight spaces or dark tight spaces, just take a quick look and head back up the stairs to bright open spaces and relax. Photos are tough to get inside a cave, unless you are a professional photographer. If you are going for the photos, good luck! If you like exploring caves, you'll enjoy this scenic sanctuary!

    Come with torches
Cool caves! Come prepared with torches, hiking boots and full pants because this is a rocky and uneven cave. It’s not too narrow which is nice and it gets dark fast. The cave inside has neat features and the entrance is beautiful with cascading plants. It’s a fun stop for exploration and some mystery. We didn’t go that far in because we had a long lava tube tour the next day.

Learned a lot about volcanos and lava and lava tubes. Mo was a great and informative guide. Provided headlamps, flashlights and knee pads for the trek. Got wonderful pics of our experiences. We did the 2 hour tour but spent about 3 hours with our guide.
