What an experience to see big bull Elk up close and personal. The tour guide was both fun and educational. This is a wonderful and inexpensive tour that I highly recommend! It is windy and cold on the open range so bundle up!!

Jaw Drop- Largest Elk Herd in North America
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Jackson. If you enjoy wildlife, then this sleigh ride is a must. 7,500 elk, the largest herd in north America, and it is unbelievable. This trip will get you up close and personal into the herd. Pro tip: it is colder than you think, but totally worth it.

    Well worth a Visit.
Excellent place to visit. Free to get in. We were not going to visit this place, but on our last day in Jackson Hole we had a bit of spare time before our flight back to the UK, and we were so please we visited this place. We seen some ELK grazing there. We watched a very interesting film all about the Elk migration...but we had also see loads of ELK in yellowstone. It as a very relaxing & interesting place to visit.

Wow ! Put this place first on your list of things to do in Jackson Hole ! The visitor center is amazing and the staff are very friendly. We did the sleigh ride amongst the elk herd and loved it being so close to such amazing animals !

Nice spot to drive in and look for elk. We only saw goat rams but still was a pretty drive. It’s right in Jackson near the Main Street

Being early May, most of the herd had migrated out; but there was still a significant number of elk in the Refuge to view.
The Visitor's Center was a wonderful resource for our visit to the area. The binoculars on the outdoor platforms of the Center, were very helpful for viewing the herd; as were the exhibits, films and artifacts inside the building, for understanding the animals themselves.
The structure is well-maintained and well-conceived; with a welcoming, friendly and informative staff.
(A real thank-you to McKenzie, who gave us some great recommendations on shops and eateries: eg corn chowder at the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill, milkshakes at Jackson Drug, and the food & views at The Bird. We experienced all three options during our 5 day stay; and all three were great.)
We were also given direction on how to drive into the Refuge; which provided an amazing close-up encounter with a group of big horn sheep, a number of which were on the road itself, licking salt off the gravel.
Whether informing one about the Refuge and the elk within, or helping one navigate the Tetons & Yellowstone Parks; this Center is a wonderful starting point and orientation to the entire surrounding area.

Not much to see or do most of the year. Unless you are there during the migration it's a taxidermy exhibit. There is information about the elk, and other wildlife, but it is certainly not kid friendly if you are thinking about your family. If you're not visiting during the migration it is worth a stop if you are in Jackson anyway, otherwise it is out of the way and not worth the stop.

Was fortunate enough to view an entire 1500 plus herd of elk. Definitely go when there is still a lot of snow on the ground. Our guide Sarah was very informative.
