If you consider this was started not too long ago by a Swiss, you don't really see that being represented anymore. Pricing in their store, even for cheeses they produce is still premium. The tour is really some large windows to observe folks making cheese...More
This factory is attached to the store. If you take the tour, you will learn how cheese is made, and see how they make it right there, with fresh milk straight from Wisconsin cows. The owners immigrated here from Switzerland in the 80s, and they...More
Tours are 1000AM Monday thru Friday. 1100AM on Saturday. We highly recommend the tour to learn about the high standards and pride taken to make Roth Cheese. Tony was informative about the history of cheese making and how to obtain the highest quality of cheese....More

We make a quick stop every year somewhere up in southern Wisconsin every year on our way to/from Galena for Thanksgiving. Last year we stopped in Monroe (second time there). I don't have tours times and costs but here are some thing not to miss:
Minhas Craft Brewery Tour- $20 45 minute tours on Tuesday to Saturdays. if you love beer go. You get a beer before the tour and several afterwards. A small family owned brewery with lots of history (nice museum for free). You take home a glass, one soda and 4 beers. They also have a distillery around the corner. Tours are 45 minutes every day for $10. Tours include sampling, sampler glass and a bottle of spirits. We stopped in but did take the tour or buy anything.
Alp & Dell Cheese Store - best variety, best prices, lots of samples, great discount bin! They have a factory tour down the street. Tours are M-F 10am and Sat at 11am. Factory was closed when we were there.
Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern- even if you do not eat or drink here stop by just to step back in time. We enjoyed sandwiches, beers and people watching.
I think the National Historic Cheesemaking Center is closed all winter.
The Swiss Colony Outlet may be worth a stop. We did not like it. High cheese prices on one side and a junk store on the other.
There are other cheese factories and stores in the area including Brennan's Market, Decatur Dairy tours are Mon-Sat, Edelweiss Creamery tours are by appointment, Maple Leaf Cheese & Chocolate Haus is closed in the winter, Maple Leaf Cheese Store, Silver-Lewis Cheese Factory Co-op. Chalet Cheese Coop is the only maker of limburger in the US. . Some do offer tours but mostly during the week and some only with reservations.
Stop at a visitor center, grab a few maps (beer, cheese, barns, etc.) and enjoy the ride and cheap gas prices!
