This is literally just a pit stop off the main highway so a nice place to stretch your legs. Only about 5 minutes from the Alderbrook Resort and I think that children would especially enjoy this.

While slightly fascinating, I'm not sure that it's worth going out of your way to see this site. But it's within a short stroll of the Alderbrook Resort, so that's how I spied it and watched the water wheel for a few moments. It's a ten minute visit at tops.

The water wheel is a great little stop, particularly on the walk to dinner. A good historical sign tells the story, which is quite good (I won't spoil it...) . The building is open on occasion, but not during our stop. A great example of pioneer gumption and old time McGuivering!

What a fantastic piece. Located just off the side of Highway 106 it is a great education piece. Reading from the plaque located on the west side of the building it was an amazing journey to know what role this played for electricity in the past. This display is one that requires only about 15 minutes so it is a quick visit.

This is a great little place to stop for photos and to read the informational sign. Well worth a 5 minute stop.

Union is kind of secluded and so there is not a lot to do. The Darby Water Wheel is like stepping back in time. I have seen water wheels before but this one was very accessible. There was also a person there who gave a brief history of the use of water wheels and how this one was used. He really catered to the kids and they came away with a better understanding while having fun.

Many individuals, families and businesses contributed to moving this water wheel to save it for everyone to enjoy from behind the fence protecting it. The daisies provided a picturesque foreground for the moss-covered waterwheel. It is next to the road, free, and if you walk closer, you can read all about its history.

Love the little story on the board about the history of the wheel! The fact that this was rigged up to provide electricity for a family's home was amazing.

As you drive through Union, you must always stop or slow down to see the water wheel. The classic water piece is nestled along the road as a symbol of a simpler time.

Historical and fun to watch. That's about it. Best in nice weather. No real parking available. It is on a main highway.
