About
Hit Virginia Beach’s three-mile-long oceanfront promenade to people-watch, shop, and eat in a relaxed ambience. The boardwalk features a separate bike path—perfect for cycling and rollerblading. There's also a bronze statue of King Neptune which you can spot from miles away. When hungry, head over to the restaurants at the neighboring Pacific Avenue. Virginia Beach is also worthy of visiting during winter when Christmas lights turn the boardwalk into a stunning spot.
To make the most of your stay, you might want to book one of the many waterfront hotels in the area.

Why any town would allow dogs on the beach in the center of town where all the hotels and activities are..., I have no idea. Virginia beach boasts "dog friendly". OK, but all weekend I watched dogs poop on the beach and around the boardwalk. I was completely turned off by seeing the 2 dogs in the picture ( zoom in) pooping on the beach, then I saw more and more dogs led to the beach by the owners to poop. I don't want to go on the beach if it's used as a doggie toilet.

Visited on our Big 2022 Road Trip. Lots to see, do, buy, and eat, and lots to park in, too (that also will take your money). A good way to spend a summer afternoon.

The boardwalk is always clean and easily accessible. It's wide enough for comfort and during the holidays they have a spectacular light display.

Charge less or give people their money's worth. Not worth the price. Huge disappointment. Save your money.

You have seen magic acts. The magic here is good. But, you have not seen a Magician who is also a Boss. This guy knows the bouncers, the waitresses, and the bartenders. If Stu likes you and your cool, he's down for having a drink. He is the Prince of the city, albeit a small one (Virginia Beach.) If you ever have the chance to join Stu to grab a drink elsewhere, don't expect to wait in lines. Stu goes to the head of the line and enters without being on the list. That's how this magician rolls. I don't know if its part of the show, but when you are with Stu, you have a VIP pass. If you have time, and you're in the area, you might enjoy this show.

My wife and I were in town for a funeral. We had some down time and checked out the boardwalk area. Beautiful beachfront. Tons of high rise hotels and shops. I’m sure this is a very different experience in the summer months. Parts of the immediate area seemed a little seedy, but we never felt unsafe. I’d like to check it out someday when the area is more active. We did a good amount of walking on the very long boardwalk, which was in awesome shape, and there were many tributes and memorials to check out.

Beautiful WIDE and clean beach with sand that's like powder. MANY restaurants and bar within walking distance. Very WIDE esplenade to walk, bike or skate, well lit at night runs the length of the beach from 4th Street to 36th Street. Many highrise hotels with pools.

Boardwalk nice length for a bike ride or just a pretty walk. Lots to see and do along the way. Many shops and restaurants to check out. Also, the pier.

It's our 20th anniversary. We only have two or three days midweek in October (17th or 18th to 20th) with our actual anniversary the 19th. My husband (bless him!) wants to splurge. He's a history museum guy. And I desperately need some ocean time.
We're coming from upstate New York and would probably take the train down to Norfolk and rent a car.
We're not one percenters, but we don't need to budget, either. We're in our late 60s
Sell me on Virginia Beach, please! Best hotel, best restaurant for a romantic anniversary dinner. And anything else you can think of.
Thank you!

We agree with Klamath Falls, Oregon the Cavalier Hotel is a great choice if the price is right for you. We vote you should go for it! :) We too didn't stay but went for drinks only. The rest of the hotels in town are average at best. Have you thought about Williamsburg and then driving to Yorktown (on the water).

Family (me, wife, two middle schoolers) will be staying in Williamsburg for a week in mid August. We’d like to make a day trip over to Virginia Beach. Any tips on which beach to visit, parking, attractions, etc. since we won’t have a hotel to use as a base? Any visitor center or restrooms with showers to get the sand off?

According to the Virginian Pilot newspaper, four public shower stalls opened June 2022 on 2nd Street next to the boardwalk.

Hi, going to take family to VA Beach for the first time (wife, 15 & 11 yr. sons) next month March 2022, but not sure where to stay North, West or South side of VA beach? Don't want to be by bars but in walking distance to the boardwalk and restaurants. Also, would like to have an ocean view if possible. Thinking of the Hampton or Holiday Inn because they offer free breakfast. Thanks to any information
I am here now visiting (March 11-15, 2022 and it’s freezing!!!! Not much to do at all. Art galleries are nice.

Good Evening, I am planning on driving the family (wife, 15 yr and 11 yr. old sons) for the first time to VA Beach and not sure which side to stay on North, West or South side? We don't want to be by bars but would like to have restaurants in walking distance. Not sure where the boardwalk is that I've been hearing about. Would like an ocean view as well. Thinking of the Hampton or Holiday Inn that offers free breakfast as well. Any information would be great. Don't want to stay in a shady part of town either. Thanks!

Boardwalk starts at the Marriott to the north and ends three miles south at Owl Creek. It is cement, not a traditional “board”. Accessible every block.
You should post your inquiry about where to stay on the Virginia Beach message board here on TA.

I use a battery operated hoveround wheelchair and a rolator to get around. Will I be able to enjoy the beach with my family off of the boardwalk; I am going to be there between March 21st through 26th, our spring break.

We drove on the boardwalk to see the Christmas light display. I’m sure you could use your wheelchair on this if it was allowed. Skateboarding etc are not allowed. We stayed in the doubletree and saw the beach from our window!! You could hear the ocean too! Have a great time!

Which place would you rate as good beach with restaurants, boardwalk, reasonably warm in October and without a rocky shoreline or extremely deep waters? Is there enough social distancing and mask wearing? I am in Williamsburg on a short business trip and wonder if the VB area hotels are okay for a 2 day vacation?

VB was good if you want to relax. A few of the hotels on the boardwalk had restaurants but only a few. Mask wearing is required everywhere there.
