We took the route with the ferry so that our three-year-old daughter could experience it. She had a blast and it was a neat experience for us, too. We didn't have to wait long to board and unboarding was very quick. The bathrooms were also...More

The use of the Ferry is free. During the busy part of the day runs about 30 minutes. They have two in service at all times, going in opposite directions. One going to Jamestown/ Williamsburg and the other going to Surry County, location of Bacon's...More

Fun change of travel. After riding in the country side, a change of scenery going across the James River towards the old Virginia historic area and on to Williamsburg.

The ferry ride loads quickly. Allow extra time for possible random security checks. You can go to the upper deck to watch out the windows (Surry, Williamsburg) or go outside (Pocahontas and soon Powhatan) . Watching the accompanying seagulls and seeing Jamestown Island are all...More

Completed the latest trip to Williamsburg with friends and had two excellent trips on the Ferry. Wait was minimal and the ride was smooth. While it requires some amount of back country roads to access it, time saved is well worth it !

The ferry is an efficient way to travel. This ferry does not charge to cross the James River. We used it throughout our stay in Virginia to get to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown.

A neat little ferry. It may be faster to take the ferry than drive depending on where you live. I used to like feeding the birds, but that seems to annoy the other drivers. Beautiful views.

The ferry is free! Run by VDOT, it travels between Jamestown and Southside Virginia on a regular schedule. If you want to get to that part of Virginia south of the James River, this is the best way to travel. It leaves Jamestown near the...More

A free ride to save two hours. What couldn’t be better. Ferries are large enough one doesn’t get sea sick but small enough they can load and unload quickly. The front of the ship has a bunch of seagulls that ride from side to side...More

The ferry is clean, efficient and a fun way to cross the river. Depending upon when you cross, you may need to wait in line, especially at commuter hours; however, if you travel during off hours, it is super quick. We cross with our bikes...More

Depends on which direction you are driving, and what side of the river you are on. If you are in Jamestown, then find Route 31 (Jamestown Road) and drive south to the James River. Look for posted signs. If you are in... More
