- Geoffrey ELondon, United Kingdom633 contributionsMarvellous beach, all the amenities you need close by.At the Cottesloe town end a terrific white sandy beach sheltered by a small man made headland. Safe swimming observed by lifeguards and all the right amenities close by, hotels, fish and chips, excellent ice cream, showers by the beach to wash off. There is a beautiful long white sandy beach heading away from Cott, quite lovely. Oh 102 bus to Cottesloe station every 30 minutes.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,719 contributionsPerth's favorite surf beachThis is the best-known surf beach in Perth. Young people like to hang out here. The sand is fine and gold; the waves are regular and moderate. Cottesloe has been Perth's favorite beach for years. North Cottesloe Beach, universally known as "North Cott," is a fashionable beach, which is favorable for its bikini girls, most of whom are young. Cottesloe is popular with families who live in Perth's suburbs.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 3, 2024
- Bevvers67Worcestershire, United Kingdom396 contributionsThank you Tim Minchin. The beach is beautiful & despite it not being the hottest day (end of October) it was a lovely place for a stroll & an ice lolly. As a Brit, I'd never seen shark nets at the beach before, it's kind of scary but also reassuring too (don't the jellies get through the gaps though??) It was quite busy despite the rather cool breeze, & sitting under the trees people watching was just glorious. Anyway, the main reason we ventured to Cottesloe Beach is because it's mentioned in the Tim Minchin song 'Carry You'. The song is one I've listened to many times as it reminds me of my brother Jason who never made it to Australia, so my visit was, in part, for him too. Yay bro, I finally made it for both of us <3Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 20, 2024
- Rochelle FRandolph, New Jersey1,240 contributionsA nice beach but the water was coldWhile staying in Perth, we took the train to Cottesloe Beach. There was the Sculpture Trail of 70+ sculptures all around the beach and the area. We did take bathing suits to swim - there were lots of folks in the water but for us it was just too cold and windy. The Sculpture exhibits were a lot of fun to see and we walked around and then watched the sunset which was lovely.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2024
- ross mBrisbane, Australia148 contributionsOne of the best spots in Australia. This was a bit of a surprise. We were expecting overwhelming crowds, limited parking and crappy service, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The beach was clean, the water was nice, there was a shark-netted swimming area, and there are plenty of options for sitting, parking a car, getting a meal, changing, showering, and relaxing. We loved it.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2025

Nothing much to say other than a wonderful beach and area. I love Cottesloe Beach and all the surrounding area!! Love the fact that there are many places, to eat, toilets and showers to use after swimming, as well as lawned areas if you want to picnic too. The water is always so beautiful to swim in at Cottesloe Beach, love it!! The only downside can be parking as it gets really busy, particularly on weekends, other than that I highly recommend Cottesloe Beach! (BTW my photos don't do it justice).

Loved the beautiful sandy beach with car parking close by. Lifeguards supervise the area close to the town centre. Sculptures dot the promenade to give a different feel to the beach. Lots of children's play areas. Information on the history and wild life

The beach is obviously a very popular place - partly because it was school holidays. Many of the people there were young teenagers. The young girls were wearing skimpy bikinis but there were no topless women.
The only other time we came here to WA some years ago, it was raining heavily. Today it was a beautiful warm sunny day.
Many people were sunbaking on the grass or on the beach. People were enjoying the walk along the long stonework pier. Adventurous teenagers were jumping off the pier.
It was great atmosphere. Well worth visiting on such a beautiful day.

If you or your family want to swim then forget Cottesloe Beach. I took my children to the beach it was 41* expecting it was a safe place to swim. What that lovely pic to your left doesnt show is that the Council or State government put up a shark net so the public would be safe. How wrong was I - very. Not long after we arrived the shark alert went off and the Cottesloe Lifesavers made an announcement telling all swimmers to get out of the water. I asked one of the lifesavers (very nicely) when we could swim again. I was told an hour after the last shark sighting. So we waited like good citizens for an hour and soon after the allotted time the announcement was made that we could go back in the water. Well NOT 5 minutes later the sirens go off again. Everyone out of the water whether you are swimming in the enclosed area or not. They wouldn’t even let small children sit and play at the waters edge! Now, I was under the impression that because of the net, in times when a shark is spotted we could continue to swim - because there is a BARRIER between the swimmers and the shark. After all, the whole reason they put up the net (in Cottesloe), and spent probably a huge amount of tax payer dollars is because there are sharks frequently in the area!! Hence the shark net. Absolutely ridiculous!! I will never go to Cottesloe beach again. My advice, your time and money better spent elsewhere.

I went to cottesloe beach to pay 1 miiiiiiillion dollars for chips, at Ol Bouy cafe and get attitude from robotic iphone gazing teenage staff. The beach is mostly flat. Everyone kept repeating the same thing. “West Oz has the best beaches in Australia/the world!” The British liked it, but what do they have over there to compare? Cockles and Muscles carving your feet down to the bone and grey dirty English style sand! Have you guys even been to the east coast lol. Sydneys crappiest beach has better waves on a calm day. Sydney is a hole but the beaches, omg the beaches make west oz look like, well you get the point. Im planning my escape from west oz and its sentimental, biased views and taking my butt as far away as i can manage on one paycheck. So long weirdos!!!

Beach easily accessible by public transport: take the Fremantle line from Perth, get off at Cottleslow then 800 M on foot. Car parking limited to 3 hours. Surely a nice beach to admire a sunset but not to spend the day there: very few benches sheltered from the sun, no public toilets, few options for lunch.

Cottesloe is well worth a visit. Of course when one is in Perth, there are so many wonderful white sand beaches around every corner, that it is easy to get blase! But this offers a little more with the scupture park that has been created near and on the beach. It is for free but a contribution is requested but not obligatory. Some of the scuptures are breath taking and beautiful; others, like the enormous head of Homer Simpson sitting on the beach, not quite so ! But all are worth a trip to discuss which one you would like to stash in your suitcase and take home with you !!

Exactly, it's a beach, and a nice one. I plunked myself into the Indian Ocean for the first time ever, so that's something. There were no stinging jelly fish to great me, definitly a plus.Rottnest Island sits offshore and you can take a day trip over there, or spend the night and see the lights of Cottesloe.
Cottesloe is easy to get to from Perth as a train will deliver you for under five Aussie dollars.

Cottesloe Beach is one of the best-known beaches in Westen Australia. Cottesloe Beach is a magnet for young people. The golden sands are an attraction, you can swim or just sunbake. Cottesloe is known as Cott; the neighboring beach is known as North Cott. North Cott is best known for its bikini girls. Cott is not far from Perth. It's best to swim early, before the sea breeze whips up the waves.

Christmas Eve was an absolute disgrace. Playing average music to a crowd that clearly left because of the lack of ambience especially after multiple complaints about the lack of Christmas spirit, truly shows lack of customer engagement. A disappointing evening for many local repeat customers. Read. The. Room. P.S. no one is dancing.

Can we go there after sunset? Any activities?
Written April 22, 2018
There are no organised activities, just personal beach walking, night photography of the exhibitions if you are into it or eating dinner at a restaurant nearby
Written April 22, 2018
Hi, is there any deck chairs or sun umbrellas we can rent when we get to the beach?
Thanks
Written December 24, 2017
Sadly not for hire. If you go to the main Cottesloe beach there is plenty of shade on the terraces of lawn south of Indiana building.

Hey! Is Mosman Park too much of a walk from Cottesloe Beach?
I’m thinking of booking this Airbnb because it’s $50 cheaper than places in Cottesloe but I want to be close to the beach. Thoughts?
NB. I can't share the link here but search airbnb for "sunny apartment near river and sea"

It's around a mile from the Beach, so if you like Walking fine, otherwise if it was me I would choose a location by Cottesloe Beach which is superb

Hi
How to go from Perth city to cottesloe beach?
Written December 25, 2016
Cottesloe Beach is easily accessible from Perth CBD.
102 route buses leave Elizabeth Quay bus station around every 30 minutes. The scenic route runs along Swan River foreshore, and delivers you direct to both North Cottesloe and Cottesloe main beach.
If you are happy walking, catch the Fremantle Line train. Cottesloe station is a 12 - 15 minute walk to the beach.

I was wondering if the sea weather temperature in March is ok to enjoy sea by small kids (~ 5 years).
Written November 27, 2016
Yes the water in generally warm enough in early March. Late March it’s getting colder but little kids never seem to mind. Just make sure you have a warm jumper to wrap them in when they come out
Written December 27, 2017
Hi! Is there are bathing areas near the beach?
Thanks!
Written November 4, 2016
Plenty of free parking, but usually most of the bays were already taken when we got to the beach; but you can always park a bit further up the road and walk to the beach.
