Cottesloe Civic Center is a historic complex of attractive buildings. The Civic Center is the creation of the Western Australian mining magnate, Claude Albo de Bernales. He was a wealthy entrepreneur who won praise for stimulating the struggling WA gold mining industry during the hard-pressed 1930s. These days, it's the headquarters of the Town of Cottesloe. The Civic Center is beautiful, it's frequently used for social functions, which I have occasionally attended.

Few men had the resources to build such a striking residence in the Hungry Thirties. Claude Albo de Benales was a builder and a gold miner, and this was his home. It is still a magnificent structure, even though it now belongs to the people of Cottesloe. De Benales was known as "the Magnificent Miner."

My Mums family lived in Cottesloe. I followed in later years & regret moving away. The Civic Centre was right next to my Grandparents home & as a child I used to spend hours in the gardens, especially the ponds. It was a magical place. It still is lovely but the gardens are not what they used to be. It is still a lovely place to visit & a great spot for weddings.

The Cottesloe Civic Centre is Perth's best-built civic building. This extensive building was once the residence of Sir Claude Albo DeBenalles, who was once the richest man in Western Australia. The buildings and grounds were transferred to government, and opened by Sir James Mitchell in 1950. The quality of workmanship is outstanding. DeBenalles fell on hard times, he spent the last years of his life in England.

This original home and part of the heritage estate can be visited by all. The large areas of gardens, playgrounds and lawns can be enjoyed by all. Many events are held at this location. The home of Cottesloe Town Council is a beautiful building available for use.

A great spot and quiet even on a busy day at the beach. 2 large grassed areas and a children’s play ground.
