GREAT whale watching adventure! Two hours of information from very knowledgeable female crew & cooperative whales. Small boat & only 12 passengers permitted 360 views and easy filming of the whale activity. Exciting, but not risky. Would be perfect for families.

We’d been looking at other tour companies when a friend recommended Blue Ocean to us — and it was the best suggestion we got for our whole Kauai vacation. I’d been skeptical of the Zodiac raft but it was absolutely exhilarating and I can’t imagine a better way to see the Na Pali coast. We saw a whale, dozens of dolphins, sea turtles, sea caves... really incredible.
The captain (Kaylin) and crew member (Maia) were outstanding and really went out of their way to give us a great experience. I could not recommend this more highly!

Great whale watching experience. Boat was not crowded so allowed everyone to move around to see the whales. Would only suggest the guides be more informative about the whales and marine life.
They asked if anyone had questions, but didn't provide much general information about the whales or other marine life in the area.

Tried booking (and re-booking) a whale-watching tour during whale season. Blue Maui had to cancel both due to under-booking. They are providing a full refund but I think it’s fair to say that they are un-reliable (while also helpful). We did see a few alternatives go out to explore while we were left on the shore. Try other companies first.

This is the third time we have used Blue Maui for our whale watching trip in Maui. Previously we have given it 4 or 5 stars, but this time it was rather "meh." We like these aspects: It leaves from Kaanapali, rather than having to drive into Lahaina; it is a small boat (only about 15 people) so that we're close to the water; the staff is courteous and safety-concious; we saw several groups of whales; the weather was perfect and we had calm water the day of our trip. However, we felt that this time there was little interaction between the staff and the passengers. Captain Mark and Country were nice enough, and they strove to give us a good experience of seeing whales. But there was very little information given about whales. When questions were asked, they were answered, but in the past there was a naturalist on board who gave a lot of information about whale breeding, migration, birth, feeding habits, whale groups, etc. In addition to being educational, it filled the time when you're waiting for the whales to make their appearance, and the naturalist was quite entertaining. We came away from the trip grateful that we saw whales, but we didn't learn anything about them. We are fortunate that we are able to go to Maui frequently, but for first-time (or one-time) visitors, it was not optimal. We'll likely use Blue Maui again, but hope that there is the educational commentary we expected.

Wow! What an experience. Mark and Country were great captains and whale spotters. They were knowledgable about everything and made sure we all had a fun and safe time. Will definitely be back!

Blue Maui is a really great company to go whale watching. The captains are all very nice. Every time I’ve gone out with Blue Maui I’ve gotten great looks at the whales.

Our Captain was skilled, kind and easy to be with. The 1st Mate was also very kind, and took great care of each guest. We saw many Humpback whales! One whale breached 7 times in a row just a few yards away!!! A perfect day

This was one of our highlights to our trip to Maui! We wanted a smaller boat that was more of a intimate experience. Well, that's exactly what we got! There were 4 of us in our party and we were the only ones, besides our new friends Matt and Mark. Basically our group got a private charter with these wonderful young men. It seemed to us that these two were just as excited to see whales as we were, and see whales we did. Lots and lots of whales! There wasn't a minute of the two hours out that we weren't watching whale activity. Matt was very informative and Mark captained the boat like a pro. Thanks again Blue Maui for a unforgettable experience!

Hi. Want a good recommendation for a whale watch in early January. 4 adults. Hoping to see many whales. Is this a good company to use? Price? Duration? Thanks
What is provided on this trip? Snorkel gear? Fins? Are there any restrooms available? Is it hard to get back into the boat? Website isn't very clear on details. Thanks

Fins, snorkels, masks, swim vests (if you want them), even sunscreen is provided. No bathroom on the smaller boats. Getting in and out is super easy- nice wide ladder and there’s someone to assist you if needed every time. You bring towel if you want one :) hope that helps!

Hi! We are flying over from the UK 🇬🇧 in September. Are we too early in the season to see anything!?
Thank you

The earliest that I know of the whales arriving in November. The main season from my memory is December to March. Hope this helps.

What to wear on whale watching in February

Agree on the bathing suit. If nothing else, make sure you leave a change of clothes in your car so you have dry clothes for the rest of your day. We went in December and my wife and I both wore bathing suits (she wore gym shorts over hers) and a light waterproof shell. Very comfortable. Note if staying dry is a priority I would suggest sitting in the back of the boat rather than up front. The views are better up front though.

I have checked several whale watching websites and every one has photos of the boats with whales! Yours is the only website that just shows women in your boats and no whales. And there's only one review on the trip adviser website versus hundreds and thousands on others? Just wondering why you would advertise whale watching tours and have no photos of whales?
