About
In 2019, Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens opened its doors after a closure of 10 years, this magnificent Grade 1 listed garden was nearly lost forever and has been the subject of the largest garden restoration in England and possibly Europe. These spectacular and ancient gardens are now open for the public to enjoy once again. Many people in the local area have fond memories of their visits and life around these gardens, and we aim to protect this magnificent heritage so that future generations get to enjoy these beautiful green spaces and flora and fauna within.

Very disappointed
Sep 2021 • Couples
Very unhelpful. My husband and I were given a voucher for afternoon tea, unfortunately we have a dog that can't be left for a long time so we asked if we could swap the Afternoon Tea and have just ordinary tea in the garden with our dog to save the voucher not being used and we were told NO. We also asked if we could give the voucher to our daughter and again were told NO. Very unhelpful and would not recommend.

Relaxed in lovely setting
Sep 2021
I visited the lakes to view the many flower displays between 9-12 September 2021. I was very impressed with the creativity shown by the many groups showing at the lakes and grounds. The grounds are beatutiful all year round but were enhanched on this occassion by the flower show. Of particular interest was the display on the "waterfall lake" made amazing by model yachts sailing slowly around the floating "dancers". All very relaxing. Beautiful day out.

Don’t go to eat unless u r going super posh!!!!
Sep 2021 • Friends
How disappointing! Thought Leonardslee would be a great location to meet a friend for lunch - how wrong could I be! The ‘cafe’ was only able to serve over priced packaged sandwiches & burnt looking sausage rolls - staff didn’t know flavours of pastries - reason for lack of hot food was ‘we don’t have a chef’. Well, there were plenty in the posh afternoon tea restaurant! Also, the ‘Farm Shop’ - the saddest looking farm shop I’ve ever seen - some reduced biscuits, jam, curds, vodka & flour!!!!!

Escape for a few hours in this inland paradise

in my view just the right size to enable a choose of good walks, trails that take you up and down dell - or simply keep alongside the lake paths, fab specimens, sculptures and wallaby.

Gardens
Aug 2021
We visited the gardens along with having afternoon tea it was a very good day out the gardens are very big and cover a lot of ground there are a couple of small cafes a bar there are some resident wallabies and plenty of wildlife. We tried some snacks from the cafe we had a wine tasting from the bar along with G&T and ice cream all the wine and gin were made at the gardens or with grapes and botanicals from the gardens

We must mention Paula the "Housekeeper" Who does absolutely everything.around the gardens we saw her tidying up we saw her checking things we saw her helping in the cafe we saw her everywhere. She was doing three peoples jobs and she was lovely to talk too

All in all a great day out

Beautiful lakes and gardens to walk around for the day with some beautiful statues. Kids loved exploring, the wallabies, running around and hiding

Positives and negatives

We appreciate the ongoing improvements of the gardens and the amount of work that has already gone into the development of the area. As others have said the map is nit the most helpful without the corresponding names of the pathways/routes actually written on the map. Most people were lost and totally confused.
The newly opened small cafe had no sandwiches left at 12:45. This was befuddling as it’s a great spot and people were left ordering as to what to do to get some sustenance. It’s a fairly long hike back to the main cafe….if you can find your way!
Surely this issue is easily rectified and you’re losing business.

Unenchanted Forest
Aug 2021 • Family
I posted on here at tje time of our visit but somehow it has disappeared( I wonder why?)
We came for a family outing to the enchanted forest with our 3 grandchildren .One of whom is severely disabled and needs the use of disability pushchair for mobility.Whilst there are notices that it would be difficult for wheelchairs ,I feel that perhaps the path from the car park could ha e been a little smoother(not very disability friendly). The area where the stalls were was nothing short of a ploughed field.Once again ,not quite tricky for a wheelchair,I would say more impossible.
Then onto what was advertised as an enchanted forest. The path was accessible ,which we decended in a queue for 20 minutes in the rain to see the Fairies. We has told my grandaughter that we was going to see fairies which she was excited to see. Having watched countless children go up to the fairy grotto(a dodgy gazebos) and have there pictures taken .When our turn eventually arrived the woman in charge told us that there was to be no individual phots ,regardless of the fact that all 3 grandchildren wanted to go up ,and we was moved on.Then turning around to see more.children going up to have a photo opportunity.Im sorry but this smacks of discrimination of a disabled child. At this point y we had no interest in the chap playing his saw ,or the 15 foot paper mache giant .We hurried to end with a very bad taste in our mouth.
I hope this is actually allowed to stay on the reviews as I feel it needs to be known how Leonardslea dealt with a disabled 5 year old.Absolutely disgusting.
Please don't reply with the bog standard ,we.are.sorry to hear this and to get in touch directly ,because I can promise you I won't.
Sorry if this sounds like a rant, butj am still fuming 3 weeks after.
