This small but well laid out museum gives a good overview of the history of Île de Ré. Only puzzling aspect is that you learn almost nothing about the person the museum is named after!

A small, well laid out and quiet musuem with excellent marine and sociological exhibits and a room dedicated to Vauban. A pleasure away from the press of the crowds around the port.

The exhibits illustrate the island's evolution clearly, even if your French isn't strong. A cool break on a very hot day.

Despite what a few people have said - of the 'it's okay if it's raining and you've got nothing else to do' - this is a seriously interesting museum for people who like history. I was drawn to visit Ile de Re after reading about...More
