We stayed in La Flotte, and had a pleasant walk to the abbaye in the evening. It was a perfect distance for an easy evening stroll. The grounds were easily accessible, and free to enter! The abbaye is beautiful as you approach it... we took...More

A 45 minute ramble along the coast from La Flotte lies the ruins of this old Abbey. This stands out proud above the flat lands of Ile de Re and it’s position just set back from the cliff edge amidst fields with Skylarks twittering around...More

Visited here on a bike ride from La Flotte. Easy ride there and back via the shoreline. A very pleasant way to spend part of the morning. The ruins are certainly not Fountains Abbey or Riveaux Abbey but are very easy on the eye and...More

One of the oldest ruins on the island and it's free! Nothing is free on the Ile de Re, everything is over priced - entry fees, food shopping or tastings; and I should know I've lived in France for 15 years.

Worth a stop and quick photo shoot- lovely herb garden within the walls of what was once an Abbey. Easy access for bikes and prams etc.

Not much to say on this. It is easy to get to by bike or on foot from La Flotte, and when you get there you find the ruins of what was in its day a much larger structure. Imagination required!

Lovely peaceful time to visit- the building glows in the light and the fields of wheat rustle in the breeze

This must be one of the most photographed spots in western France. As you drive by you cannot ignore the areas of brilliantly coloured poppies with the ruined abbey as a back drop. If you walk into the poppies it can be quite a psychedelic...More

Lovely cycle ride through fields of barley and poppies with birds singing. Dramatic ruins with interesting history.
