Fort Pilar is a very famous land mark in Zamboanga City. This Fort was used by the Spaniards when they colonized Zamboanga.
The inside of the Fort is now being used by the National Museum of the Philippines. While the outer (front side) , is the place where you can find the Lady of Pilar.
This place is a really must see if you're going to visit Zamboanga because you can definitely see how the Spaniards influence the people in this place... not to mention the dialect they are commonly using .. called Chavacano (its a mixture of some dialects but more on Spanish languange).

For our evening walk, we visited Fort Pilar and pay respect to Our Lady of Pilar. This was my nth visit to this outdoor worship place and my 2nd time for a night visit.

After praying and lighting some candles, we went to the altar to pray and give my petitions. This was my first time to be near the altar.

Being a rightful owner of a replica of Our Lady of Pilar (a gift by Archdiocese of Zamboanga for my short but memorable talk during its National Youth Day), the visit to this holy place became a more heartwarming experience.

Nice place to visit and you can feel the holiness around the area. It is good to come this place late in the afternoon since this is an open area.

Fort Pilar is one of those places you stop by to have some quiet time perhaps to say a short prayer of thanks or simply sit in silent contemplation or reflection. It certainly can be a place of refuge from the busy city or a chaotic day. There are many spots where you can be by yourself just to have a peaceful break.

The moment I saw the facade of Fort Pilar, I became reminiscent of places I have visited in Thailand, India and Pakistan. The place is a charming one especially that it is an old structure. The shrine that was put up was very Filipino. I was just a little sad that the museum was non-operational when we visited the place.

Inside the Fort, the open space reminded me of Jakarta, Indonesia with the clean massive buildings surrounding it. It was refreshing to explore the top borders of the Fort. It is overlooking the Staff.Cruz Island, Paseo del Mar and the Central Bank (which looks so clean and sparkly 😁).

The side of the fort houses the different souvenir and food stalls. You'd be able to enjoy the pigeons hovering and walking the patio in that space. I wasn't able to visit the Fort at night but I think it would've been a sight because I saw small light provisions hanging all over.

It is best to visit the place by taking the tricycle at 50 PHP from Ever O Business Hotel. Brings you directly there without any hassle.

Another must if you are in Zamboanga. For believers, this is a venerated Roman Catholic shrine just a very short distance from a local Muslim village. This shrine is venerated by both Catholics and local Muslim residents as well.
