A visit to this fascinating site really helps you imagine what life was like for the fabulously wealthy in colonial times. Our docent, Mac, was a trove of information regarding the ruins, the families that successively owned the plantation, the historical context, and the history...More

This was a little hard to find, and no clear signs to get there. You must visit the welcome center to pay $6.00 to gain entrance. Then proceed to the ruins. Rutted road with mound of grass in middle so we had to remain in...More

The mansion is stark looking and a little eerie in appearance now. It is a rare glimpse into the splendor that was here. No interpreter was on hand to guide us.

This was a great visit. It is a landmark that Gloucester, Virginia, and the nation can be proud. Would love to see it restored to its original granduer. The story about this site is truly interesting.

This place needs to be preserved. I hope the caretakers can figure out a way to add back all the piles of original bricks back to the building. A reproduction of a formal garden woulld be a great addition.

Obviously you have to come to Rosewell with the right expectations; it is the ruins of a plantation, not an intact plantation. With that in mine, it is well worth the trip. The visitor center has a short video and some displays/artifacts that do a...More
