I have never been to another college stadium outside of our fandom or the SEC schools…..but since my sone is considering this as a future educational possibility we decided to take in the sights. Granted, Lane Stadium isn’t as big as Bryant-Denny is down the street…….I could feel the excitement just standing near it. Playing Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” in the truck doesn’t do it justice as those who say it literally registers as a small earthquake during gamedays. We plan on attending a game in the future so we can truly get the experience of how a small stadium can literally shake the earth and rattle the sky.

They now serve beer and drinks. Only place to go watch the HOKIES! Sit in the student section to REALLY enjoy the game. Lots of people will help you there if you can't find anything or just need help.

If you are a college football fan, this is a great destination. I don't even like Va Tech (see my collected works for details) and I had a super time.
The atmosphere around the whole town is warm and upbeat. From local stores, to security staff, to fans, everyone is super friendly. Going to sporting events can be iffy with drunks and fools. Saw none of that, with great people sitting all around us.
Game days at any big school are crowded. So make sure you get a parking pass ahead of time and arrive early.
NOTE! If you want to take in a stadium seat, it has to be soft ONLY with no arms. No metal in the seat.
Enjoy

They installed new plastic seating on top of the old aluminum bleachers. The new seats take away what little space there was and make you sit forward on the edge of the seat. There are setbacks but if you lean back in them you break the knees of the persons behind you. I will not attend another game there until the seats are gone.

I visited for the Ga Tech/Va Tech game. Really great pre-game atmosphere with Enter Sandman and a raucous crowd, despite the team not playing well this year. Fans were overall very polite and didn't give me much grief over wearing Ga Tech gear.
I was a little disappointed with the food options. There was the usual hot dogs/nachos/popcorn, and I saw some people with pizza and bbq sandwiches. But not as much variety as I've seen elsewhere.
Physically, the stadium seems to be ageing. Not many modern amenities to be found.

Great Stdium right on campus of VA Tech. Get the Turkey Leg on the 1st floor and enjoyed that it now serves beer and hard seltzers. Great place to watch a game and great entrance by Va Tech. Va Tech fans are very nice to their opponents as long as they are rooting for Virginia

Too big, too self important. They should plow it under and eliminate football from VaTech. Think of all the money they could save and use for actual education...

Although we are ND fans, we really enjoyed the Enter Sandman tradition. The stadium was rocking! The fans were great as we walked around the stadium and campus before the game. The campus was very nice with old buildings and monuments. We felt welcome and no one was unkind or rude.

Watching the Hokies play at Lane Stadium is ALWAYS a good time! The fans love their Hokies like no fanbase I've ever seen before. They are up jumping, screaming, and shaking keys the entire time. If you are in the area, you have to go witness Enter Sandman and the Hokies!

Lane stadium is a fun family friendly venue. Lots of games and food at tailgating. Parking and traffic is usually slow but that’s to be expected. The new entrance will hopefully help that flow better during game days. Suggest you get there early to maybe get a parking spot along a nearby street then relax and eat or drink until game time. Facilities inside are clean and convenient. Workers friendly. Note for anyone with vertigo or fear of heights...if your seat is in the upper level it is quite steep so beware and walk carefully. Might want to opt for a lower level seat.

If parking in one of the stadium lots, how difficult is it to leave after the game? Does it usually require minutes or hours in traffic?
Written October 12, 2019
Where is the best place to park to tailgate - like a space that has grass behind it to setup a tent or chairs?

Hokiechip you mentioned sections 501-510 were visiting fans. I’ve heard sections 17-19 are also visiting fan sections. Any other sections I should avoid as a Hokie fan?
Thanks

Is there a more family friendly section of Lane Stadium to sit? I want to bring my two young girls to a game, but don’t want to be in the crazy college hooligan section.
Written June 4, 2018
I would sit at the opposite end zone of the jumbotron. The jumbotron section is where the students sit, and is naturally loud as a result.
The fans are loud, but not crazy. Respectful, so you should all have a fun time as long as you are going with the intent of enjoying a game!

Where can you eat before the game, and leave your car by taking an Uber
Written October 17, 2017
It depends on what experience you want. Cabo Fish Taco is on Main Street along with many others and is a three block walk to the stadium. You can Uber from just about anywhere, but the Blacksburg Transit runs every 15 minutes even from as far away as Food City on North Main St. The Hokie Village has several food vendors! Also appearances from the wrestling team, girl's softball team and I think girls soccer. It is located on the soccer field by Lane Stadium. They provide bounce houses for the little ones and the Hokie Bird is there too. We like to enter the stadium an hour before kick off so that we don't miss any pre-game activities or fly overs. Go Hokies!

Is there anything to do at the stadium during the summer months? July in particular? Even just tours.
Written March 2, 2017
During the week, there are some displays open in the stadium and at the Merryman center next door.
