LOTS of information in the museum and the entrance fee is very reasonable and will allow you into the Browning Firearms and Classic Car Museums as well. I really enjoyed this museum! Make sure and take the time to go outside and visit the trains to the left of the building. They are really cool and two of them (The Medical Train and Postal Train) can be walked through. Really makes you think about days gone by and the importance of the railroad system.

The museum experience is very relaxed; you go at your own pace. Even though it is small, it packs in a ton of information. I appreciated the focus on history of BIPOC employees in the railroad industry. It also covers western expansion and gives information on the Mormon and not Mormon settlements that grew up around the SLC area. Outside, the trains were amazing to look at and if you are lucky like we were, you can go inside an Army medical car and a post office car. Will return again!

pretty cool place. great place to take the kids to see the trains outside and inside. 3 years old and younger are free. adults $5 students $4. low cost for a family outing. they have a rain way festival for all the railway fans. Open year round.

We went back to Union Station in Ogden, Utah and took a look at the trains and museum. It was good to go back and look at the trains again. This time my favorite was seeing the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Torch Rail Car. It is a well done exhibit of train engine and rail cars.

This museum provides a nice feel for the history of railroads. There are other museums in the same complex.

The Union Station building is interesting itself, as are the locomotives on display outside the museum - none of the above requires a fee to take a look. If you want to see inside the train museum (30-40 min of pretty interesting history on Ogden and the Transcontinental RR), the antique car museum (can see it all in 15 min), the Cowboy Museum (one room that can be covered in 15 min), and the firearms museum (which I did not get to see but it must be pretty small given the building layout), it's $7 per adult. Museum workers/director seemed confused and in disagreement about what we were supposed to be able to see for the entry fee. We were sent from worker to worker to get a tour of the inside of the locomotives, finally to be told that wasn't being offered the day we were there. It took up a chunk of our limited visit time for nothing and made me feel like the museum staff isn't very well organized or trying very hard to be welcoming to visitors.

I had read about the museum online and was going to be in the area, so I decided to stop in. I am glad I did. If you are a Union Pacific, this place is a must for you. Exhibits include 4-8-4 # 833, a Centennial diesel, and a steam turbine. There are Rio Grande and Southern Pacific locomotives, snow plows, and numerous other items that are all worth seeing.
I highly recommend a visit !

The museum is inside the old railway station in Ogden. There is a nice exhibit inside with lots of history, a play area for kids and several functioning model trains. Outside there are a bunch of full-sized locomotives including a train car from the 2002 Winter Olympics. Definitely worth spending half a day to explore. The $5 admission also included the Browning Gun Museum, a car museum and a small Utah history Museum as well.

We has spent the day at Promontory Point so this was a train day. Ut was late in the day when we found this walking down 25th street. It is part of the Union Stations museums, that have a one fee for all. But we found this first and did not have to show a ticket so it was free.
Not the largest exhibit I have seen, but you do get to touch the locomotives (no climbing) and lots of photos ops.

Outside the old station is a wide variety of historic rolling stock, some very unique items. You can get up close and even crawl on a few units. Inside there are interesting exhibits on the history of US railroad development and an extensive toy train exhibit featuring "real" Utah locations. Since Ogden was so near the juncture of the transcontinental railroad there is a lot of space devoted to that. But after that, Ogden became the hub of many rail systems that covered the entire Western half of the US. This history is explained quite well in this museum.
