About
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is a leader in collecting, showing, and interpreting art from the 1940s to the present. Situated in the heart of the Cultural District, the creative center of the city, the Modern has been housed since 2002 in an elegant concrete, glass, and steel building designed by the renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando. In addition to 53,000 square feet of soaring, light-filled gallery space and landscaped grounds with outdoor sculptures, the museum features a reflecting pond, theater, elegant private event facilities, education center, gift shop, and café, creating a thriving hub for our community and beyond.

This is probably the worst museum I ever went to. Paid $8 each and then the employee told us the entire 2nd floor was closed except one small area which took us approximately 2 minutes to explore. The artwork was SO blah and boring. I have already visited the best of the best already but figured I would give this a shot. Save your money. We probably stayed a total of 20 minutes. So disappointing.

I really like museums and have been to ones all over the world. With that in mind, I have to say this is one of my all-time favorites in large part because of the extraordinary building. The building itself is a work of art and its galleries are like canvases where the curators work. The light is astonishing and nothing is too crowded. We (my husband, who doesn't usually love museums) were blown away. The folks working the front desk weren't exactly warm and engaging, nor were the folks in the gift shop (which is filled with lots of great things!). But we really, really enjoyed ourselves and found some old favorites and some new ones too.

Went specifically to see the Milton Avery exhibit and it didn’t disappoint. Several rooms filled with seventy paintings, sketches and water colors by this talented artist. Definitely worth a visit! The building itself is beautiful and interesting to walk through. A wonderful gift shop is also worth a walk through. Lots of unusual items.

The current special exhibit was phenomenal. Women painting women was an unexpectedly rich and varied offering. I laughed, I cried. Really evocative. Loved my brunch at the Cafe. The Lobster Avocado toast was a real treat. Chinois salad was delicious, enjoyed with a French Mimosa and a lovely view over the refecting pool and sculpture garden. Solo traveler zentopia.

A wonderful place, very friendly staff. The collection had some absolute classics - Rothko, Warhol, Lichtenstein - and a great exhibition by Jammie Holmes, some very moving pieces.
As well as the excellent collection there is an even better restaurant overlooking the reflecting pool - a definite must for lunch!!

My recent experience at The Modern was an art lover's dream . Firstly, the museum architecture and landscape design is stunning. Also, it is an oasis in the infernal heat of August. Secondly, the current offerings are sublime. I was fortunate enough to meet and discuss the exhibit with curator Maria Elena Ortiz. She happened to be with another curator, Jessica Bell Brown from the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Robert Motherwell and Jammie Holmes are two must see offerings.

Wow! This was our favorite experience during four days in Dallas and Fort Worth. The building and collection are both amazing. We saw so many incredible works. We spent almost three hours here. Definitely recommended for all art lovers.

Fantastic building, impressive art collection. You definitely shouldn't miss it when visiting Fort Worth. If you can manage to get there when it's dark outside, the back staircase is amazing. :)

This is the second largest modern art museum in the United States behind MoMA in NYC. The works of art inside are amazing and the building itself is a work of art. Take time to have lunch or coffee in the cafe overlooking the pool and grounds. Make sure to take the free tour at 2 pm. I have taken it a number of times and each time I learned something new and loved my docent.

Went to the Amom Carter museum the other day. Some great 'cowboy art' and good early modern art. Went to the Kimbell Art museum next door at midday - 2 great world class buildings. Among a good varied selection of art from around the world, there was a excellent section of Modern Art from 1850 - WW1 - with really good examples of the varied 'isms' of this period.
I asked where I could see anything modern from WW1 onwards - they pointed me to the Modern art Gallery across the road. Great building again ....... but there was virtually nothing in it! And the little they had (Post W11) for the most part poorly represented even the few modern artists touched upon! I took many pictures at the previous 2 galleries ....... but here...... I only took only one - of Hamlton!
Luckily I arrived just after it was free entry on a Tuesday from 5.00; Had I paid the normal $16 entry fee ..... I would have asked for my money back!.
