We loved the Cultural District of Fort Worth and would recommend it in conjunction with all the usual Western and historic activities. This museum had a good mix of art genres and was within walking distance of the Kimball so no moving the car after parking. Good for teens up.

The current Winslow Homer and Frederic Remington exhibit was enlightening. Previously, I did not consider these two artists contemporaries so this exhibit added to my understanding of their works and time period. I have always been a fan of Homer so will always make the effort to see his works.

What a gem! We are bird lovers and heard this museum had two different bird exhibits (temporary) and they were fabulous! But the main museum is wonderful too!! There are small gallery rooms with a nice variety of styles and genres. The staff were absolutely wonderful, the person at the front desk was so great and showed us everything on the map and we had the most amazing docent stop to tell us details about one of the bird exhibits. A very nice place to visit for an afternoon in Fort Worth. Oh! And it’s free!!!

This museum is small enough not to tire you out, but unfortunately not large enough to make it worth a journey. The museum contains a large collection of Western artists like Remington, which tend to look the same after a while. The rest of the museum has some works by famous named artists in American art: O'Keeffe, Cole, and Sargent for example. But by no means is this a comprehensive survey of American art. The museum itself is wonderfully lit, open, airy and modern. The ambiance is first rate. It is also a quiet museum, with few people wandering around. Give the entire experience an hour, at most two.

This free, small museum is literally down the street from the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Unlike the Kimbell, the Amon Carter Museum features American-art pieces exclusively. It is quiet and inspiring! If you enjoy images of Native Americans, pre-Manifest Destiny paintings, the American West, or more contemporary pieces from artists like O'Keefe, this museum is for you!

We came to the museum on a Thursday afternoon because they are open later than 5 pm on Thursdays. We were starting to look at the art when a tour started so we joined the tour. The lady giving the tour was showing art from immigrants and highlighted ten pieces of art from immigrants to the US. It was nice to hear the backstory on some of the pieces that I would have probably just passed by without looking at them. My teenagers weren't that excited about the tour but my wife and I enjoyed it. They are known for their western art so make sure you see that before leaving. Others have said that it is a small museum which is true - but that might be an advantage if you have kids that don't like walking around museums for hours and hours. And, it's free so you can't go wrong giving it a shot.

Particularly good if you are a Frederic Remington or Charles Russell fan, but they have much much more. Great descriptions of every work of art and no flash photos were allowed. Amazing free entry.

A great building houses this museum’s collection. I found the collection to be small but saw really great samples of American art. I especially loved the key western artists, Remington and Russel. The museum is free and is within walking distance of the Kimball museum. If you need food, you can’t get it in the museum, but across there street from the parking lot is a small cafeteria open during Covid times for lunch.

Coming from NYC, I don't expect many museums to compare to ours. This was a very museum but had alot of fantastic paintings. Their current exhibition of "The Rise and Impact of Chicano prints" was very eye opening and informative. If you have time to stop by this museum, I would recommend everyone going here.

Great museum. Permanent collection includes early modernist American painters and sculptors. Georgia OKeefe, Calder, Cox who I never heard of but was really cool Then onto the western masters Russell and Remington plus their works in bronze. We were very lucky to have seen the exhibition by Bodmer. Watercolors of Indigenous Americans before the settlers came. Great museum which is free and centrally located next to the Kimball and Cowgirl museums. No cafe just coffee’s and candy. Small gift shop. Nice grounds.
