- chateau57164 contributionsBotanical beautyA delightful Garden, so well planted and well maintained. The little special places which people have sponsored over the years in memory of loved ones are really lovely. Food options quite good, and the Pumpkin Patch display was wonderful. If we lived near we would definitely be an annual member, it must be marvellous to walk around during the changing seasons.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 21, 2023

- Keith DRichardson, Texas1,224 contributionsLovely Garden OasisWe visited here on an unusually warm November day and immensely enjoyed walking through the Botanical Gardens. Lots of variety and beauty nestled in Fort Worth easily accessible just off I-30 west of downtown. Bring a refillable water bottle as it gets warm and there are plenty of refill stations throughout the park. Look for turtles around the ponds and koi are abundant.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 25, 2023

Be prepared for lots of walking - there is also a shuttle bus to take you around the gardens but there can be a long wait at some stops.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 1, 2024
- CEEQ2014Tyler, Texas63 contributionsUnexpected treasure to see.Everyone talks about the arboretum... this was an unexpected treasure and it is not even spring flowers and summer weather time yet! The gardens were beautiful even on a cold, windy day with not much colour to see. The Japanese garden is so much bigger than I expected and everywhere you turn is a photo opportunity. Gorgeous. The Beauty Bus was a great help to us as we had someone that couldn't walk the entire time. Our only disappointment was that we missed the butterflies by a week and so the inside was closed in preparation.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 1, 2024

I loved the peaceful zen of the Japanese garden as the sky went dark. The sculpture garden, near the entrance, also provided a contemplative, calming environment during the first phases of the eclipse. I also enjoyed the display of Texas flora and fauna. While the eclipse was a once-in-a-lifetime event, I'd gladly recommend the Botanic Garden for any visit to Fort Worth.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten May 12, 2024

You just have to use your phone and it was very frustrating. There is a little restaurant that we thought about eating at but the atmosphere was very lacking and menu unappealing.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024

During a recent visit to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, I found myself harassed by a “security guard” questioning me about a necessary photo pass. Firstly, this security guard did not introduce himself to me nor did he have any form of identification on his person that showed that he worked at the garden. It would have been helpful if he had a nametag that was visible or at the very least the name of the institution on his reflective vest to identify him to the public. Once he stopped me he proceeded to ask me, condescendingly, if I was aware of their photo policy and if I had a photo pass which would allow me to use my camera during my visit. I told him I was aware, I had read it before visiting and discovered that as an amateur with no monetary intentions I was allowed to use it during my visit without a photo pass. He then told me that I was wrong and that I had to have a pass for my DSLR because they only allow visitors to use their phone cameras and that anything fancier required a photo pass. At this point I was growing frustrated and proceeded to inform him that the website did not mention anything about certain types of cameras and that I was not breaking their rules and that he should check for himself. He did, saw he was wrong and then proceeded to call the front desk to make sure explaining the whole time that that was now how he was trained. I told him that no one at the front desk stopped me when I checked in, and my camera was visible during my entire visit, so why was he stopping me now? He calls and they told him they could double check. He got a call back and it sounded like they told him he was indeed wrong about the situation. After this, he kept telling me he was new and that he was trained a certain way, but what employee does not know the basic rules that are posted on the website? While I understand being new is tough and there is a lot to learn, this experience shows that there is an inconsistency in training at the gardens because he was adamant that he was told one way while the website said another. The gardens should consider who trained this person (because someone told him the wrong information or he interpreted it wrong) and develop a more standard training guide that are given out to all new employees so everyone is on the same page and visitors don’t get harassed during their visit.

This was our first time visiting. It was early March. It was a little cooler & most the tulips hadn’t bloomed yet. The butterfly garden was amazing. The other gardens were very nice. Bring quarters to buy fish food to feed the Koi in the Japanese Garden or you can buy food for the koi in the gift shop. We will definitely be going back & go a few times throughout the year to watch the gardens change. It was beautiful & peaceful. It was nice to walk through the gardens, destress & spend time with family.

We enjoyed our walk through the gardens but enjoyed the Japanese gardens in the back the most. If you come to the Botanic Gardens plan to spend most of your time in the Japanese Gardens since they let you feed fish and turtles in that section (buy bags of food when you pay to get in since the don't offer food at the back of the garden). The Botanic Garden itself is nicely done but, as others have commented, traffic noise takes away from the overall experience. Also, the workers were shredding up wood pieces which was really loud and also took away from the experience. We though they could have had better signage - the garden is a little confusing on the first walk through and signs would have helped. Also, it would have been nice if they would have had an open restroom near the back. We also thought the parts of the garden was a little chopped up with roads separating the sections. It was a nice walk in the city - well worth coming as long as you aware that there will be some traffic noise.

I live in the neighborhood but not been to the Botanic Garden for a year. The Japanese Garden is superb, and the Rose Garden is beautiful. There are other areas to stroll as well. My only complaint is getting to the site. If you're not driving, it's a pain. The pedestrian entrance is now closed, which adds an extra half hour if you're in the Cultural District at any of the museums, and there's no sidewalk on University Avenue when you do get near the entrance. If you're across the street in the Trinity River park, it's difficult to cross University near the Botanic Garden and you again have the problem of no sidewalk once you're on the side of the Garden. The bus stops near the Botanic Entrance, which is good--but again, no sidewalk into the Botanic Garden. It's rather odd that for a garden for pedestrians, the pedestrians are expected to arrive by bike.

First time here. We found it to be run down. Water features in several areas not working, stagnant, or dry. Bare places that need sod. There was a restaurant there where you can order things like sandwiches, salads, etc at a counter and then find a table. It took over 40 mins for them to fulfill an order of 2 sandwiches and chips. And hard to find a table not dirty. There was no attention to detail anywhere. Very disappointing.

We were in town for the Winter Classic hockey game on the 1st of January.
We love gardens so came here and enjoyed ourselves. It was still decorated for
the holidays and just full of beautiful displays. Free to park. Over 100 acres with
well marked paths and just take a map. Colorful pansies everywhere, some plants blooming and others with berries. We walked the trails and got our daily exercise of
over 4 miles. We thought the rose gardens and Japanese garden must be truly
breathtaking when in bloom...Staff was great and very helpful. ADA available for those
who need to have extra mobility to visit. Enjoy!

Yesterday was my first visit to the FW Botanic Garden and I enjoyed it so much, I became a member. There are so many things to see beyond the beautiful plants and flowers, like waterfalls, fountains, sculptures and places to just sit and take it all in. Educational and/informational signs and displays along the paths, including some interactive for the kids (or me who enjoyed learning about the different bird calls or oldest tree!). And of course, hungry bright colored koi and turtles to feed (buy a $2 bag of special food at the ticket counter when you arrive). After spending a few hours walking along the paths and taking it all in, I decided to take advantage of a quiet spot on a bench and read for another hour. I can’t wait to return and further explore the grounds throughout the year.
Check out the memberships if you live in this area as it has a lot to offer beyond admission for a year. Depending on the different membership level (I selected the Partner level to include my family), which also includes reciprocal admission to 330+ gardens and arboreta across North America, invitation to member only hours and events, discounts and early registration for classes and a subscription to their newsletter and BH&G/Martha Stewart Living magazine.
Highly suggest being careful of others' reviews as they may have different expectations than yours. I read several posts before going for tips and other information and found some to be very helpful and others not. For example, some thought the traffic noise was distracting from their experience. This garden is located in a busy urban area which I personally think adds to the charm of creating a nice oasis amidst all the activity of a bustling city.

The grounds are very well kept and clean. Parking was free which was nice. I was expecting vast gardens, but didn't see that. To get form one part of the gardens to the other you had to walk along a paved road with no shade, which I found very strange! The Japanese Gardens were lovely, quite authentic looking. The rose garden section was also very well done. We had lunch at the cafe and the food was good, but not cheap.
It was hard to know where you were going. You could download a map when you bought the tickets but it was near impossible to see the entire map on a tiny screen phone. I only saw one large map while there, more would have been helpful. There were volunteers walking around in red shirts which made it easier for us to locate the cafe to grab something to eat.

We visited for the first time during the Japanese Spring Festival and loved it. The grounds are beautiful and the open space allows for some relaxing time in the middle of the city.
We enjoyed the Japanese garden the most and we were impressed with how big it is. I've seen other Japanese gardens at other botanical gardens and the one in Fort Worth is one of the best.
We want to come back in the fall to see the different colors and regret we didn't visit earlier.

How much of the area is shaded, like for a baby in a stroller?
Written June 7, 2023
There are some shaded areas however the summer heat would definitely be something you may want to consider.
Personally I would not take a child under the age of 3 it's a huge place and exhausting to walk just half of it.

During the day, yes. But it’s pretty nice around sunset (or sunrise, if you’re an early riser).

I am looking to take professional engagement photos here on dec 23rd. Are there still lots of colors in the Japanese garden during this time? I’d hate to spent 400 plus dollars on photos and nothing be in bloom.

Hello, thank you for your question, we have bike racks located at the Garden Center, due to our narrow paths and fragile foliage we ask that you do not bike though the Garden.
