About
At 6,000 acres, the Great Trinity Forest is the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. The Great Trinity Forest supports a diverse community of plant and animal species and contains a unique mixture of bottomland hardwoods, aquatic and wetland systems and grasslands. The Trinity River Audubon Center, opened October 2008, and serves as the gateway to explore these amazing resources. Visitors have the opportunity to explore hands-on exhibits; miles of nature viewing trails; the Children’s Discovery Garden; and sustainable building features including a vegetated roof, rainwater collection system, energy efficient systems, and recycled materials.

What a beautiful piece of nature 15 minutes outside of Dallas. Many options of trails, not too long or difficult. See many caterpillars, butterflies, lizards and turtles sitting the landscape. Wildflowers and native plants were plentiful!

We were blocked at the front door, me, my 8 and 11 year old and our cattle dog gypsy. Our not very friendly host -jerk- told us "no dogs allowed" he further let us know that dogs polute the trinity with their urine, ok would be great if there were signs or if it was well stated on the web page.. as we were driving out we saw two couples walking the trails with dogs. What got me is this guy - jerk- blocking our way lecturing me when all my kids want s to do was learn and get a great walk. Nice job

What? I don't understand all these reviews. My family of four drove out to see this place only to be disappointed. We walked all the trails which were very short and were nothing special. There is a spectacular building but the few exhibits inside are just okay. I love the concept but it needs to be improved. They have some cool t-shirts there. I bought one.

Cycling along this river makes you feel alive, the trails are about 16 miles in length, mainly on the level and will suit all forms of cyclist. The trails takes you along Trinity River around Fort Worth Nd into the open countryside. Wild life is in abundance and watch out for the turtles on the trail itself. There are many picnic areas along the way as well as a couple of nice places to stop and have lunch. One of the best things that Fort Worth has to offer.

Visited here when work offered free admission this weekend. We enjoyed walking the different trails while the birds chirped around us. It was nice to get to experience nature near the city. Check it out if you want a relaxing walk. Don't forget your water, hat, sunblock and insect repellent. Would be nice to bring some snacks too since there are benches and tables around where you can stop to rest.
Took us about an hour and 30 mins (no kids) to walk around at a relaxing pace. The website advertised bikes are not allowed but some some paved area where some cyclists are passing by.

Like any good outdoor spot this place is different depending on the season. But, because it's an educational center it's more than just a walk in the park.
There are a variety of hiking paths to take you around the 120 acres, the longest is the one that takes you to the Trinity River. (That could change if the city executes a plan to purchase 265 acres on the north side of Loop 12.) That one also takes you through a bit of the Great Trinity Forest. Personally I like the wetlands loops and the cool viewing stands, they look like modern Lincoln Log buildings. There are also prairie trails, this site is an interesting intersection of North Texas environments.
You could spend all your time looking up for birds, but check out all the stuff going on at ground level: the human trails constantly intersect game trails, and there are all kinds of bugs to look at.
Back at the center are some interpretive exhibits, but me and my kid always enjoy the big water table that shows erosion at work to explain the value of wetlands, plus the video bird board with pics, of course, but also bird calls. Kids love to push those bird call buttons.
Check the website as things are going on out there all the time: family events, lectures, live raptors, etc.
They have food there, but eating is about the view from the dining over a large pond. The foods good, don't get me wrong, it's just that eating is secondary to why you're there.

This site is a great place to take a break, get out and enjoy nature without traveling out of town. It's especially amazing to thinking about and experience when you learn the history of the site as an illegal dumping ground. The trails are all well marked and in great shape, even despite all the rain the area had been having. None of them were too difficult either. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
