Highlight of your visit to downtown is the remarkable History Museum and Visitor Center operated by the Bastrop County Historical Society. Besides picking up information/materials about Bastrop at the Visitor Center, take some time to tour the museum and discover the community’s fascinating history that started back in 1832, four years before the Texas War for Independence. The first class exhibits include several videos as well as an array of artifacts.

This museum provides lively displays outlining the rich history of Bastrop and central Texas. It is surprising large considering the size of the town. Very informative. If you like museums, you will like this one.

This is the second time I have visited the museum. The permanent exhibits are a good overview of the history of the area and especially the Republic of Texas.
