A short version of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but with fewer turnouts. Some beautiful views of the Smokeys. Be sure to stop at Rock Point around the midpoint. The long “missing” section between Walland and Townsend is due to open in November. No services along...More

One of those take your breath away rides. Beautiful, peaceful and a must see. The best time of year is in the fall to view the leaves changing.

Instead of taking 411 all the way into Maryville before turning on the Lamar Alexander Pkwy towards Townsend, I found a bit of a shortcut bypassing Maryville. Turing onto Hwy 72, the road skirts t Chilhowee lake toward the Fontana Dam-- but just before heading...More

Beautiful drive, especially in fall. Careful on the Tail of the Dragon, winding road, beautiful drive but motorcycles race through so caution on curves is needed. Fontana Dam at the end, great site of lake flooded by TVA to build dam

Beautiful any time of the year, but of course especially so in the Fall. Take you time, don't be in a hurry and just enjoy the ride.

We travel this road whenever we can. Great pulloffs for great views at any time of day. Super close to Townsend and the Tail Of The Dragon.

We took this drive at the suggestion of a local. It was beautiful. There is a look out tower at the top elevation. The sign says "moderately strenous" and I would say just plain strenous, but worth the effort.

If you are in East Tennessee be sure to drive the Foothills Parkway. Pleasant ride with fantastic scenery. Many pull offs. Great place for a picnic. Runs off of US 321 between Maryville and Townsend.

Breathtaking views. Enjoy the forest and the views from the various overlooks along the route. By taking it you can bypass Gatlinburg. Stop at the visitor centers to gather more information.

This is a nice road that will take you through the GSMNP. In fact, you can look down on the park. The scenery is magnificent. I went early in the morning and got to see the fog laying in the valley. Truly magnificent. Not very...More

There are a few motels in Townsend, TN, which is just minutes from the Parkway and minutes from the entrance to the National Park. We can also highly recommend renting a cabin with Dogwood Cabins in Townsend!
