    Well worth a look
This is a nice visit if you are interested in state capitals, which we are. They were not in session so it was quiet and very few people were there. Take the time to visit the house of representative and senate and sit and absorb it. The building itself is pretty impressive. It’s a whole different side to Nashville!

    Historical building - GREAT VIews.
If history and state capitols is your thing, this is perfect for you. Located on a hill, with lots of steps, it overlooks the city. Some nice views but also walking around the building are some historic statues/memorials to view. This is one of the few capitols without a dome, and it seems smaller than others, but a nice place to visit that’s free, quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of Broadway. The security guard was also professional but friendly!

Our Tour Was Helpful but Not Thorough
What a beautiful building and nice grounds in a busy area of Nashville! We certainly benefited by taking the guided tour when visiting the TN state Capitol but felt we were dropped off so the guide could go start the next tour. We felt there was more to see and hear. The building is beautiful and large but we only saw a small portion on the tour. You can do a self guided tour if you wish and there is a brochure at the information desk that will guide you. I would recommend taking the guided tour and then do the self guided brochure before you leave. As for parking, you might want to look at the maps on the internet ahead of time. Many lots or garages are for specific people or businesses, but we found a couple of large garages within walking distance of the Capitol. Just be aware of your surroundings in downtown. Glad I finally got to see this!

Had this on the 'itinerary' in, what was, our musical tour of the US! However, glad we did. Informative tours every half(?) an hour. Really interesting and good to do something a bit different from the bars, concerts etc. And it's free! Thank you!

We did a golf cart tour in this area. The capital building is up all those stairs; small building but typical. The views at the top of the stairs are spectacular; you need good shoes to walk up the hill.

We enjoyed our visit to the capitol building.
It was the 48th capitol building we visited.
The building is plainer than some other capitols - it does not have a classic dome - but it is very historic and worth visiting.
The building has a nice setting. It sits on top of a hill and has park land around it
The self tour is easy to follow. There is a lot of info about President Andrew Jackson.
It is the tenth oldest capitol building, and is noted for the unusually extensive use of stone and structural iron in it's construction.
The well known architect died before the construction was completed and his son stepped in and finished the building.
President and Mrs. James K, Polk are buried on the grounds.

There are a lot of steps, more than 200, to get up the hill to the Capitol Building. We had to take the hourly tour with a group of middle schoolers, but we all learned a lot.

We got a pamphlet with a self-guided tour. It was informative, easy to follow, and we were glad we stopped.

We walked the whole area on a Sunday; lovely outside area with great views. President Polk’s gravesite is on the campus. The outside also includes statues of President Johnson and President Jackson along with a replica of the liberty bell. The Next day we came back, and received a very nice and knowledgeable tour about the history of the building, the state and many other neat facts. We were than allowed to view some of the rooms on our own. Really, nice experience. highly recommend.

When visting Nashville, the State Capitol building is a great option when you want to get away from Broadway St. We really enjoyed the tour, the building is amazing and demonstrates some great architectures. I will say, be in shape for the walk if you are not driving. The capitol is high on a hill, which makes views of Nashville really nice. We took many photos from the balcony on the second level. Visiting the site is free as was the tour!
