About
Imagine this. A whole kilometre of cosmopolitan boutique shopping, with more than 370 retail outlets to explore. The pavements are broad and tree-shaded, with inviting courtyards, verandahs and kerbside seating for an espresso or glass of fine regional wine. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and there's not a highrise building in sight. And right at the end of the street is the sparkling sea

The shire takes nearly 200 million in rates, pays around 84 million to staff, and the street is often in bad shape. We are locals and there are countless kids with bare feet, thong-wearers, and dog-walkers along Main St. There is ALWAYS broken glass on the pavement or around the tree beds. Some attention to street beautification and safety seems in order.

There is no shortage of interesting cafe's and restaurants along this better than average shopping street that ends at Mornington Pier and the harbour and beaches. It has retained some old buildings and introduced new buildings and it has remained relatively free of tackiness. Long may it stay that way.

Lots of independent shops to visit. Over the last few years a number of modern cafes have opened up to enjoy a good coffee.

It the old days, before it was another outer suburb, Mornington was the summer retreat for Melbourne's upper crust. Mornington's Main Street is still charming and some wealthy families still spend their summers here. Some well-off families still have holiday houses with acres of vineyards attached.

Visited on Friday 14th February, it is good to see they have retained this lovely shopping strip so much better than the huge shopping centres most areas seem to have now.

This is a great street. It's quite long, with a range of shops, cafes and restaurants. We spent a comfortable hour strolling up and down the length. The street is wide and very clean with a welcoming feel. We really enjoyed it. From the bus stop at the top of the street, it leads down to Mornington Park, and the pier.

This is a really attractive main street filled with shops and boutiques, housed in pretty period buildings giving the town the feel of gentile Victoriana feel, this does not detract from the great shops and eatery's.

A throwback to older times. Nice high street with historic buildings. All low rise and keeping the look and feel of a different time. Not overly commercialised at all.

Mornington is a medium-sized city 57 km (35 miles) south of Melbourne. The trip will take around an hour by car if you take the Mornington Freeway Mornington is the hub of the Mornington Peninsula, which takes in areas such as Rosebud, Hastings, Point Nepean, Mt Eliza, and Merricks. Main Street has some interesting boutiques and restaurants. Once, Mornngton was once Melbourne's most popular holiday playground, and it still has a happy-go-lucky atmosphere.
