What a wonderful rail trail. Incredibly well maintained. The Axedale area is beautiful and worthy of a visit on its own. We did the trail over 2 days. Bendigo / Axedale return and then Axedale / Heathcote return the next day. An asset to the...More

My husband and I did this rail trail on Easter Sunday. It was a great ride. The trail is quite flat and very good for hybrid bikes. Closer to Bendigo there were plenty of people using the trail and all were very friendly. We had...More

Beautiful, peaceful wander on Easter Sunday. We left from Herriot Street in Heathcote towards Bendigo but would recommend parking in McIvor Street behind the Caltex garage as the first two kilometres just takes you around the houses as you head out of Heathcote. We walked...More

If your into cycling or like a decent walk through the bush then this is for you. Very well maintained compressed gravel path following the closed rail line. Awesome views.

We cycled from Axedale to Bendio and back the first day, overnighted at Heathcote and did the section from there to Axedale and back the next. It’s a credit to the Shire and the volunteer friends of the trail. The trail transverses farmland, scrubby forest...More

Kudos to the local communities who have supported the development of this rail trail. Although I was running (saying I was competing implies I was in with a chance of winning) the 2017 marathon, I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery (although the...More
