Highly interesting visit with a very knowledgeable guide, Director Jonathan (Jay) Tate. The subject of near earth objects is fascinating and the search, monitoring and solutions are fascinating. Strongly recommend a visit.

Thanks for your review. It's actually the "Spaceguard Centre", a name first used by Arthur C Clarke in his novel "Rendezous with Rama".

Read about this in a brochure at our accomodation in Rhayader, so booked for the 2pm. Only took about an hours drive. The volunteers were working on the second dome with their new bigger telescope, so this kept us occupied as we were early. Jay...More

I was told about this, but wasn’t sure wether I would find it interesting or understand!! Both proved to be unfounded ( although I only understood some) Well worth a visit although a little different to find well explained and more valid than space craft,...More

Very interesting and informative tour but there was no time to look or read the many exhibits that were all around the rooms. Unlike some reviews all my many questions were answered fully and in simple terms. However there is no opportunity to look around...More

I'm afraid that you have the wrong place here! Sadly we're not free, and we have no cafe on site! The Spaceguard Centre

The spaceguard centre is an observatory for monitoring asteroids, comets and the like that may at some point cross the earth's orbit and present a hazard. It appears to be an entirely self funded project and runs on visitors admissions and donations. It is however...More

We hadn't known this place existed until we visited Knighton and chose to go on a rainy morning. They have tours at set times but it is a working observatory and not a "tourist attraction" as such. If you are interested in things to do...More
