Handy Park is in downtown Memphis. It is next to Beale street and has a statue of WC Handy, the famous Blues Player. The park has beautiful trees, and great blues music every night. On Thursdays in the summer the beautiful new stage / amphitheatre area hosts different country music concerts. You can reserve a seat or bring your lawn chairs or towels and sit on the grass. They keep the park very clean and there is lots of security. The concert we saw was awesome.

My husband and I spent several evenings at this little park sampling some very good local blues bands. There is minimal seating, but no one seemed to mind. The bands we saw were very good, related well to the audience and made the experience fun. They asked for tips, but weren't pushy about it. A perfect way to spend a summer evening, right on Beale Street and close to our hotel, The Peabody.

I and friends went to this park as we walked up Beale St. during the day. The music was great, they were set up on a side stage. When a band member started to pass the hat for donations or trying to sell their cd many people left and looked uncomfortable at the propositioning. The band had an orange bucket for donations near the stage but it didn't say anything to let people know this was the case. This situation can be handled differently. Two businesses on Beale had told us that Handy Park had public restrooms, not the case as restrooms were locked. We called the visitor center to ask where to find public restrooms (get the number). The park does not look well maintained as there is no longer any grass-bare dirt, at least it is a clean area. It could be much better.

As there are currently only two reviews of the Handy Park I thought I would give some comments on it. We visited the park most nights when we were in Memphis to spend a little time watching the local bands playing there. We actually really enjoyed the atmosphere and the music. The people there seemed to be a mix of locals and tourists. Drinks could be bought at the reasonably priced bar counter (part of Ugly Juanitas cafe I seem to recall). The band that stuck in our mind were called That Guy or Those Guys and were really entertaining with lots of people getting up and dancing - including us. Some of the performances on the concrete dance floor were a sight to behold - unfortunately my flash photos have not come out too well otherwise I would add these to the review. It was really good to be outside watching live music - now we are back home in England and the weather is getting colder it will be many months before we get to do that again.

The park is at the bottom end of Beale Street. There’s a performance space and people set up to play music. Take 10 minutes to wander around.

Memphis is one of our favourite places to visit. We've visited this place two times and always enjoyed being in this park. This time we would not miss this place. Handy Park is not a real park with a lot of trees, grass, kids playground, a place for jogging and letting your dog out. It is more a place for activities such as art exposition, food festival and music venue. There is always a live music in Handy Park. The park is dedicated to the father of the blues William Christopher Handy and that's why there is a statue of him in this park

A nice place to take a break from the craziness of Beale Street, and an opportunity to take a few phots with the statue and the large guitars in the area.

We really enjoyed the bands and the people-watching at Handy Park, which was across the street from our hotel. Nice, fun outdoor venue.

Mentioned this park in another review but didn't remember the name until now and see that it is it's own rated attraction!
We are lucky to go to Memphis on a regular basis. And we go to Handy Park all the time! Free music as musicians play on a small stage. Dance it you want to, or sit and listen. Drink if you want to, or eat. Enjoy and let this corner on Beale Street free you mind, and body, and spirit. Relax, dance, sing, feel like you are in a special place where you can leave your troubles behind!

The bartender makes no specialty cocktails so don’t ask if you don’t want a rude response. I asked for a French connection and he waved his hand and said ‘I don’t know what that is’. So jack and coke it was for the night. It was a small bar with somewhat of a karaoke band because the little old man singing sat down the entire time and in-between notes he would try and catch people off the street to come in. There is a wall of any type of liquor you may want lined up except for grand marnier liqueur. So I guess it’s safe to say this is a man’s bar and no catering to the women. It was cool just to sit around and hear the little band sing for perhaps 30 minutes or so and keep it moving to the next.
