About
Located in Downtown Memphis, the historic luxury hotel, The Peabody Memphis, is probably best known for the Peabody Ducks. The custom first started in the 1930s as a joke by the Peabody’s General Manager, but the mallard ducks grew so popular that they became a permanent fixture, and have even been featured on television and magazines. Each morning, visitors can watch as the ducks march across a red carpet to the hotel fountain before heading back to their rooftop “Royal Duck Palace."
For a truly immersive experience, you can reserve the family package for additional perks and exclusive memorabilia.

- Alison S8 contributionsFun to see the ducksFun to see the ducks make their way to the fountain and swim around. It was very crowded on a Sunday morning. It was hard to find a spot to see the ducks even getting there 30 mins early.Visited December 2022Written December 20, 2022
- DTBinFWDFriendswood, Texas137 contributionsIf In Memphis, You should see this.It does not take a lot of time, but the seeing the ducks was a fun event for us. It was a Saturday and the they had a big crowd. If you have little kids, get there early to get a close seat. We watch from the balcony. The Peabody itself was spectacular, and the ducks are good excuse to see the historic lobby and specialty stores.Visited December 2022Written December 21, 2022
- Becky LSullivan, Illinois214 contributionsFun Experience - Do not have to stay at the hotel to see themSuch a fun experience to see these ducks! If you can only do one, I suggest going to the morning walk. It seemed to have a bit longer speech. I suggest getting there at least an hour early so that you can get a seat. The ducks walk from the elevators to the fountain. Remember that when picking your seat. The Duckmaster was engaging and entertaining. You do not need to stay at the hotel to see the ducks. The gift shop near the lobby and the the deli have nice souvenirs...the Chocolate Duck is really neat... The ceremony only takes about 10 minutes, but you need to be there at least an hour before the scheduled times for a good floor view.Visited December 2022Written January 4, 2023
- SouthCarolinaLucyMyrtle Beach, South Carolina182 contributionsoh it was funnnnnnhave been wanting to have the experience the duck walk for some time. Finally got a chance to do it and i regret nothing. I also got a chance to meet Keenan. Very kind man, He was the duck master. Sweet as he is good-looking. I could have chatted with him for hours, charming indeed.Visited January 2023Written January 31, 2023
- Ruth Anne DonatBirmingham, Alabama8 contributionsThose cute ducks!Go see the Peabody ducks, even if you don't stay here. ( But stay here if you can!) Have a glass of wine (or two) at the bar and watch this tradition for the fun of it, and just to say you have seen them. Go downstairs and grab a sweet treat in the shop before you leave.Visited October 2022Written February 4, 2023
- Matt PGainesville, Virginia1,389 contributionsCute DucksIf you want a good seat, you must get there close to an hour before the ducks arrive or departure. Yes, an hour if you want a seat near the ducks. They don't allow you to stand around you must find a seat. The place was packed when I watched the ducks leave for the night.Visited December 2022Written February 9, 2023
- Arty_momRochester Hills, Michigan2,060 contributionsA must when traveling with kids!Such a fun, positive and family friendly activity. Arrive about an hour before, order a drink and dessert. The bar makes great drinks. Kids can sit on the floor along the red carpet. at 11 am they bring the 5 ducks down for the day and then at 5pm they walk them back to the roof. You can go to the roof and see where they live. so fun and cute. Arrive ealry as it gets packed.Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 21, 2023
- notthisshitagainWindsor, United Kingdom25 contributionsBest tour in MemphisThis tour is probably the best attraction, right up their with Graceland and Beale street! We were absolutely amazed by this tour, only $10 each and not to be missed. The guide “Doug the Duckmaster” is a fountain of knowledge and we learnt more about the history and musicians of Memphis in the hour we spent with him, than we did during our week of wondering around all the attractions. The duck show is brilliant and the hotel is one of the most beautiful architectural refurbishments you will see. 10/10Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 13, 2023
- Becky MDardenne Prairie, Missouri24 contributionsKids loved it!My kids loved this! We arrived about an hour early and kids got a hot chocolate and coffee for us. They are really good about pulling all the kids out and letting them sit up front on the carpet. At 11, the ducks waddle from the elevator to the fountain and at 5, they waddle from the fountain back to the elevator. The show starts about 15 min before and the ducks move right at 11 or 5. It gets very crowded and people get nuts about trying to see it. I didn’t like being pushed and leaned on so adults could get a pic, so I happily stood in the back! The kids got a front row view and that’s what was important! (Send your phone with the kids to get a pic:) ) There are a few cute gift shops and the Lansky Bros store too. Worth a stop if you have the time!Visited March 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 26, 2023
- 50 States MamaElkhorn, Wisconsin99 contributionsGo Early and Head to the Roof!If you want to be right next to the red carpet, arrive nice and early. We arrived only 10 minutes early, so we had fewer choices. The Duckmaster was quite a showman and very professional. If you stick around after the procession, they roll up the carpet and feed the ducks. Don't forget to visit the Duck Palace on the roof, free of charge!Visited March 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 31, 2023

Not a big fan of animals being forced to amuse humans, but we had some time to kill until check-in across the street, so went to have a drink. Wasn't expecting the long intro, but the Duck Master was entertaining. Unfortunately, after the ducks made it into the fountain, there were several children chasing the ducks around. It was obvious the ducks were stressed and trying to get away, but no one (i.e., their parents) did anything about it. After about 20 minutes the Duck Master finally stepped in and distracted them with feeding the ducks. Not anything to go out of your way to see.

What a fascinating historic story behind these beautiful animals. Would advise you get there early if you want a good view as it was really busy and did involve a long time standing around.

Best view was from the mezzanine floor, but get there early to secure a seat.
The ducks sure waddle fast from the elevator but on the day we visited one went a bit astray and had to be retrieved from behind the bar area so that was a fun incident.
The surroundings are beautiful too and it was a nice way to spend 30 minutes or so relaxing.

We were unable to make it for the duck parade from the elevator. But we did go to the hotel in early afternoon as they swim in the fountain until they return to their rooftop home. Enjoyed a drink from the bar and sat in the beautiful fountain area, listen to the grand piano. We did some shopping at the hotel and admired the architecture. Went up to the next level and took some pictures of fountain area and ceiling. Took the elevator up to the roof for a great view of the city and see the outside of the duck's grand palace. Walked around the backside of the duck palace to see inside the duck's sun porch.

Such fun to experience! The red carpet is rolled out then the ducks come running out of the elevator following the path to the fountain where they hop in for the day. It is such a fun thing to see. They are adorable . If you are in Memphis, you must plan your day around the ducks!

Very good attraction watching the ducks come down at 11am by their master and hopping into the fountain to swim around all day until it’s time to leave.

A colleague and I were able to catch this cute show on a break from our meetings. We didn’t get the best spot since we were unable to get there early, but even through we couldn’t see everything, it was still fun!

The hotel is historic and beautiful, and the Duck Master provides a great oral history of the hotel and how the ducks came to be. How one trains a duck is beyond me which made made my he experience that much more fun! Kenon (the duck master) was informative and entertaining to the adults and held the kids in rapt attention! Enjoy this experience for what it is and thanks to Kenon and company for their professionalism in a completely fun atmosphere.

I had heard about these ducks, had not expected to ever see them. But we stayed at the hotel 2 days in a row and saw those cute little waddlers three times. If want a good view, sit at the bar. Or go to Mezzanine for a view from above. Enjoy the Rubber Ducky cocktail while you wait and take home a mini duck.

I just read someone's recent review stating that you have to be a hotel guest in order to see the duck parade???

We walked right in the front door and sat at the bar. We were there probably around 4:30. If you do not drink, just mill around, 2nd floor also offers a great view too!

Do you always have to be a guest at the peabody in order to see the ducks? Or is this due to covid?

Correction- I said the hotel is a public establishment which is wrong. It is a private place of business which contains other private businesses where people come and go and the hotel can restrict entry, I suppose if they so choose for any reason. I can understand if you called and asked you might be told the show was only for registered guests, to keep the crowds down, but if you don't ask and just show up and blend in, I would be surprised if anyone asked you to prove you were a guest at the hotel. We were not guests of the Hotel, and no one asked us if we were We even used the Peabody restroom and dried our hands on monogrammed paper towels.

I think that we will be there at 5:00 so we could see the ducks leave. However, I am not sure we want to stay until 11:00 the next morning to see them come in. Is the 5:00 event as much fun as the 11am one? I loved the 11am entrance and will have my children with me this time. Thank you

In response to those inquiries: to assure finding a spot within view of the Duck March ceremony, arrive at 10:15am or 4:15pm. There could be 3 to 400 there to see it by 10:30 or 4:30.

Absolutely! They will rope off the area the ducks march down, and are quite strict about it. Children can sit on the floor in front of the rope. You can also go up on the balcony, and view from up there. However, if it is your first time, I highly recommend getting there early, to be on the floor. Be sure to go up on the roof! Hope this helps. ENJOY!

If you arrive early enough to get a seat at the bar, they make sure no one stands in front of you so you can still see. Otherwise, I'd go for the balcony.

How much does it cost to watch the ducks march

I believe it is free. We didn't see them march, but walked right into the hotel lobby, saw them swimming in the fountain, spoke with the duck master, and took the elevator up to the duck palace, which was really just going to the top of the hotel. We were in and out in 15 minutes :)
