If you want to take your car to Orkney, this the only way to go. First class check-in facilities at both ports. Once on board it's a 90 minute crossing. Modern ship, all facilities, and very well priced. If you are catching the early ferry...More

Really enjoyed my ferry experience on NorthLink from Aberdeen to the Shetlands. Booking was easy. Embarking and disembarking were easy, quick and efficient. Comfort and facilities on board were good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed my meals, which were good value for money.

We took the midnight ferry from Kirkwall to Aberdeen, the ship itself was very nice but do they have any heat on those things. It was freezing! Everyone was complaining

We have travelled on a number of the ferries and find them to be good quality, staff are pleasant and provide a good service. Accommodation and seating is comfortable and spotlessly clean.

I agree with the other suggestions, Northlink can better answer this question. However, their ferries are pretty large and it would take quite a swell on Pentland Sound to pull them from sailing. Also, Thurso is quite a... More
