The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

We always visit the Centre on our trips to Charmouth, and find the staff very friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of information about the Jurassic period, and the staff will answer any questions you may have. Thoroughly recommended.

When you're really interested in fossils, i think this is a really interesting place. It is free entrance, that's why we went in, and it was nice to see, but that's it.

We took the organised tour and looked for fossils with the professional guides. It's a really interesting and different way to spend a day in the beach and we found so many fossils, we were like kids!!

Unusually its free! Well worth a look ,interesting displays, informative staff. Have a look at the Fossil shop underneath, although if your looking for a local souvenir ,read the labels, many are not from Dorset!

Visited Charmouth on a very wet June day, and visited the exhibition. Was pleasantly surprised with the exhibition, which is well laid out & informative, all fascinating, you are able to view the exhibits in a unhurried manner and it wasn't too crowded. Free entry,...More

Large collection of fossils including (at the moment ) the Ichthyosaur found in Lyme Regis that was featured in a BBC program , free entry and a great reasonably priced fossil shop on the lower ground level .

Belemnites and Ammonites mostly, if you go to the Heritage centre first the volunteers will show you what they are and which rocks and areas to find them.. Be careful near the cliffs as they can fall at any time,

You can take dogs on the West beach in the summer season but not on the East beach.
