Boat, price, and process of rental were all ok and no issues. Staff don’t abide by CDC guidelines to wear masks. They require you to physically walk into their store (doors closed no cross ventilation) and the employees aren’t masked. That have sneeze guards in front of the cash register, but the young lady renting the boat to me was around the other side of the sneeze guard and was close to me (not six feet apart). This business did absolutely nothing to prepare or adjust for a pandemic. There is plenty of space in the store, but it was if no one at this business was taking any of this serious, even at a time when the entire state of SC was seeing record high cases. A simple fix would be to require employees to wear a mask, and possibly leaving the front and back doors propped open for cross ventilation.

We've been to this store several times each year we visit and it's great. This year, they were even better as we used their boat mechanic to help our 22 year old Mercury stay on the lake for vacation week. Sean was great and immediately jumped in to help us out. He was very knowledgeable about our engine and helped troubleshoot us to a resolution (faulty thermostat) quickly.
Rachel at the front desk was also fantastic and helpful. They're about the only store on the lake, but they're excellent!

Kelly and Hunter saved our day. After another vendor was a no show, we found this company and we are so grateful. We had travelled an hour to rent a pontoon boat and we were left standing. In a last ditch effort to make the best of a bad situation, we stopped in here. They brought us a boat immediately. Treated us with respect, professionalism and kindness. The boat was great! Clean after a season of hard use, I'm sure and well equipped. The price was less than the previous vendor. We had a wonderful day on the water and we couldn't be happier. Thank you JOC!
BTW.. people come to see the waterfalls and that' s a great thing. But there is more to see on Lake Jocassee . It is a stunning place with pristine waters and gorgeous forests.

Very poor and rude customer service by some of the staff. We have been coming to Jocassee for 25 yrs and have rented boats from here at least 15 times. It seems with the growth Of JOC over the past 10 years comes popes service and very rude treatment to some faithful customers. To the point that when we asked to speak with the owner we were told it wouldn’t do any good since “I’m his girlfriend “!!! Beyond that, after days of waiting for a rental confirmation they stuck us with a very old and broken down speed boat and still charged us full price. All but the tachometer and gas gauge were operational! Steering was extremely difficult and reverse would not maneuver or work properly. We were told that they were so busy that they couldn’t talk to us but would call back. They didn’t. Most of the staff was very nice but this entire episode and this one person was definitely horrible to deal with. After waiting three days and being told we would absolutely have a boat... this person told us to go somewhere else.!!! There is much more to this story but I’ve said enough.

Don't waste your day away waiting for them to deliver your pontoon boat! Use someone else and save yourself the heart/headache.
Our family reserved a full day on a pontoon back in June. We all live a little over an hour from Lake Jocassee. When the weather said it would be a glorious morning and a more rain-fraught afternoon, we decided to get there bright and early.
When part of our group arrived at opening time (9 AM), they allowed us to pay for the full day then sent us on down to the dock to get the boat. The second car of the group of us also had to stop by the store and sign the paperwork and get copies of the drivers license for the drivers of the boat.
We arrived at the dock to find 2 boats - both from the Outdoor Center and both already rented to other parties. We were told it would be 15 minutes (for almost 2 hours, every time we asked it was 15 minutes). At 10:30 our boat had still not arrived and yet another party had arrived to pick up their boat.
A conversation with the guy who did the safety talk said this is a common occurance and he always has to take the rap from angry renters when he doesn't have any control of what the office says to you or what is actually happenening.
Our boat finally arrived a little after 11. The upholstery seats had mold, the carpet was stained and moldy and the front of the pontoon boat had been run into several objects as the metal was shorn off on one of the pontoons.
Lake Jocassee is spectacular! Please don't rent a boat from here. You will be disappointed and there are several other places you can call - from our experience we will not use this place again.

If you like getting robbed visit Jocassee Outdoor Center. They rented me a SUP for the same price as a tandem kayak for less than half a day. I was on vacation with my son and they over charged me anyway knowing I could rent a SUP for $35 less right at the lake! They are located just before you get to visitor center so if its your first time you don't know everything that is available. I would stay clear of the place.

I was encouraged by the company to make a reservation in advance, so I scheduled a trip a month early and was required to pay half the cost upfront. The night before my scheduled rental (Sunday around 7 p.m.) I was contacted by the company telling me that my rental was going to be canceled due to the boats needing to be serviced. (Several people in the group had taken vacation time from work for this trip) I was given the name of a competitor and was told to call them. Since it was a last minute ordeal it took half the day to get a boat ready but I was given a fair rate. I was assured by lake Jocassee outdoor center that I would be refunded ASAP but it took at least 5 different phone calls and 2 weeks for them to finally agree to refunding me. Each time I called asking about my refund they were rude and I was told a 'manager' would call me back (they never called back). I understand that problems happen from time to time but I believe that PAYING customers should be treated with respect.

If using this company, beware! We never will again. Wish we had read other reviews online. On the day we arrived at the shop to sign paperwork, we were told we had been 'upgraded' due to availability. Even buttered up after being told by person in the shop that this was one of her favorite boats they had. We had fun, but were in an old, well used and beat up pontoon boat. We 'inspected' it with boat hand but the boat was already on the water for our inspection. He failed to write down the damage to the propellor that we pointed out, and of course, we didn't look under the boat.
We got a call that night that we were responsible for the significant amount of damage that happened under the boat, filling a pontoon with water, and also the propeller that was damaged (we had already pointed that out). They failed to show us the damage under the boat that they claimed we did, after 3 trips back to the shop that evening and next day to settle the matter. We are honest people and we know with certainty that we did not hit anything in the water. Spent much of the day anchored out. We quickly changed our credit card number that they had on file, after talking with them the night after our rental.
If you choose this company, I would insist on a pre rental inspection out of the water and I sould take photos and make extensive notes on every thing you see. We were so disappointed. We ended up paying $125 in damages to the prop that we know we didnt do in order to clear our name from the legal paperwork they made you sign. Use this company with caution!

My husband rented a pontoon boat from Kelly to take me out on Lake Jocassee to see the waterfalls as a treat for our anniversary. He was given a special rate for the fall season. Andrew met us at the ramp at Devils Fork State Park. The boat was clean. Andrew went over safety instructions and the map on directions to the waterfalls. The lake is beautiful, the boat ran wonderfully and we could not have asked for better service. Thank you both for a great day.

Took a chance on a busy Memorial Day and last minute snagged a pontoon boat to tour the fabulous waterfalls of Lake Jocassee. Kelly and Tiffany took great care of us in spite of the maddening crowds and we enjoyed a restful touring day on the water. The pontoon boat was large, comfortable and very easy to operate right up to the falls. Couldn't have had a more blessed day!!

Capacity 10 on the Pontoon. $300 for 4 hours, $400 for 8 hours. We had just checked into the pricing less than 2 weeks ago. Check their web site or call for more potential options.
