We rented a pontoon boat last weekend and had a wonderful experience. Debbie and Gary had the boat ready and waiting for us when we arrived, and had a parking spot for our car reserved right beside the boat. The boat was very clean and nice. Gary put our things on the boat and we rode in the boat to the boat launch where he put us in the water. After a wonderful 6 hours on Lake Jocassee we picked Gary up at the dock and he drove the boat back onto the trailer and back to our car. The whole process couldn't have gone more smoothly. Gary was very friendly and gave good instruction and helpful advice about where to go on the lake. We will definitely rent from Eclectic Sun again! One suggestion for anyone coming on a weekend is to get to the park early. We waited in a long line just to get to the park entrance. I hear its not as bad during the week.

Lake Jocassee is a beautiful lake to kayak on and the staff at Eclectic Sun at Devils Fork made it so easy to rent a kayak and get on the water. The staff are very helpful and went above and beyond to help me find a bag I lost. They assist you in launching the kayaks and getting out when you return. The equipment provided is good quality. They do not have sit in kayaks for rent, but the sit upon kayak worked fine. I highly recommend renting from Eclectic Sun and would advise making advanced reservations because they are busy!

Took a 4 hour kayak tour on the lake and explored the lovely lakeside scenery. Easy to book over the internet although I just showed up and rented. Good equipment that with life jacket and small waterproof box included in the rental price. Remember to bring drinks and food.

Excellent tour provided by Gary of the waterfalls located on Lake Jocassee.
Definitely recommend using them as a tour guide if you are unfamiliar with the lake.
Gary was very informative and took us to the waterfalls that we would have never found on our own.

Rented 2 single kayaks online but as it was quite breezy when we arrived asked if we could switch to a double - no problem. Helpful, prompt service, well cared for equipment. Good size dry bag for our picnic and towels provided free ( they also had smaller ones for valuables you could wear around your neck). We paddled for about 90 mins . Picnicked and swum in our own little cove ( beautiful clear water but not much beach as lake level high when we went) . Great for energetic adults/ tweens and up.

We had an amazing time. Very professional and attentive staff that took all the cleaning precautions you possibly can. We made a day trip and had several rentals for the day. We had also had 4 month old with us that changed a few of those plans. The staff went above and beyond to help this grandma out. Thank you Debbie and staff!

I rented a kayak to see the waterfalls. There’s really only one place to put your boat in and you better be ready for some intense paddling because the waterfalls are really far away. It is totally worth it but I got stuck in a thunderstorm and it was kind of scary! It took us six hours round-trip to see one bigger waterfall. If you want to see the waterfalls (unless you are an Olympic kayaker) we suggest renting a motorized craft. The kayak is great for exploring right around the area because there are so many cool beaches and swimming areas that are truly beautiful and untouched!

In March 2016 I made a reservation to rent a pontoon boat from Eclectic Sun LLC for 2 days during the week of July 11.
Eclectic is higher priced compared to the other rental agencies on Lake Jocassee but they had mostly excellent reviews so I decided to pay for what was for us an extravagance.

Eclectic Sun keeps their rental boats on trailers in their parking lot.
The manager of Eclectic Sun LLC takes you on a tour around the boat, while it is on the trailer, to point out in fine detail the existing damage to the boat so that there will be no dispute over any new damage.
After the inspection, you load your gear and get into the boat. Then the manager uses his truck to tow the boat and trailer to the ramp where he puts you in.

When we had loaded up the boat in the parking lot with our cooler and towels, the manager asked if we had anything else to take.
I and my wife both interpreted that as a friendly reminder to make sure we were not forgetting anything in our car which we were leaving in the parking lot so we answered “no, we had everything.”
The manager put us on the lake and we drove the boat to the villa we were renting. We anchored well off shore and my wife and son swam in to pick up our inflatable kayak.

We had a great day on the lake. We had to stop in a cove for an hour or so during a severe thunderstorm and were very anxious and careful to keep the boat anchored in the center of the channel and away from anything that could dent or damage it. The boat did not touch anything but water from the time it left the trailer until I brought it back to the dock.
It had been pointed out to us by the manager that a previous renter had damaged the side door with their cooler so I placed our life jackets on 3 sides of our cooler to be sure that no further damage would occur.
And it was confirmed in the post rental inspection that we had been very careful as there was absolutely no damage from our kayak or anything else.

After the post rental inspection was over, out of the blue, the manager of Eclectic told me that he was canceling our 2nd rental day.
I was completely astonished and upset by this statement as we had made plans with friends to join us for this 2nd rental day.

When I asked why he was canceling a reservation that I had since March, he told me that I was “deceitful” by not telling him I was taking an inflatable kayak.
In the course of this conversation it became clear that the manager of Eclectic had been watching us with binoculars from the time we left the ramp to when we went out of sight around a bend in the lake, including the entire time we were anchored off shore from our villa.

I was totally surprised to learn that I should have told the manager that I was taking my inflatable kayak. It seemed to me to be an obvious accessory along with the tube that we rented from Eclectic.
I tried to explain to the manager that we had no idea we had to specify that we were taking our inflatable kayak with us.
But he refused to listen and I was not going to beg him to take my money for a second rental day.

I have an issue with Eclectic not listening to my side of the story as to what actually happened, before canceling a reservation that had been confirmed in March.
I also have an issue with being called deceitful.
If I had wanted to be deceitful, I would not have loaded my kayak onto the boat in full view of the Eclectic office.

So if you decide to rent from Eclectic, make sure you are aware of all the rules, both spoken and unspoken.
And be very aware that you will be under surveillance with binoculars as long as you are in line of sight of the Eclectic office. Frankly, we found this very creepy.
Finally know that any reservation is subject to cancellation at the whim of the manager.

Eclectic did not respond to the two emails I sent to them regarding this experience.

Love Lake Jocassee. Rented a pontoon boat from Eclectic Sun and got stiffed with a $50 cleaning charge. Called to discuss this up-charge and got an extremely rude and unprofessional rant including "I hope you house isn't like this." Mind you we by no means left this boat a wreck- we used it for the day all over the lake- what were they expecting it to come back like no one was on the boat? Frustrated and will never do business with Eclectic Sun again.
