Absolutely enjoyed our tour with Sam on Lake Jocassee. We had plenty of room for our party of six, and the boat was very comfortable. Sam is very friendly and helpful, and has great knowledge of the lake and the area. We had to maneuver around a little bit of rain (very common on this lake), but Sam handled it really well. Highly recommend this tour - gorgeous lake, amazing waterfalls, and a wonderful host!

What an incredible afternoon!! I’d highly recommend chartering mr jones’ boat. you can hire him to take you fishing, on a waterfall tour of Lake Jocassee, or a combo of the two. We did the latter, and couldn’t have been happier.
We started by seeing a number of waterfalls on the far side of the lake. At one, Mr. Jones literally pulled the boat up under the cascading water! At another, after we had had our fill of the waterfall, he suggested that we get out and spend some time swimming. The lake was clear and refreshing, and it was fun to swim right up to the waterfall. We trolled for lake trout for about 45 minutes, but didn’t catch anything. Since it was hot, we went for another swim at a waterfall that you could sit behind! Our 3 young boys had a blast.
Mr Jones has lived here for years and knows the lake well. He was knowledgeable about the history of the lake, geography, etc. So glad we went with him over another charter. I agree with texting him, if you need a quick response- if he’s out on a tour it’s easier to reach him that way (although we never felt like he was neglecting us on our tour if he had to respond to other clients).

My husband and I chartered Sam for the Sunset Cruise on Lake Jocassee and I am so glad we did. First, he was quick to respond to our text...better to text him if he is out on the water. We toured on a Monday evening so the lake was nice and quiet. The lake is stunning and Sam knows exactly where the beautiful waterfalls are and will take you up close and personal to them. Mountain laurel was in bloom too. He also has a lot of information to share about the lake. Sun setting below the mountains was stunning. It was nice to have the boat to ourselves and not jam up next to other sweaty folks...lol.
I don't think you will regret your charter with Jocassee Charters. We were very pleased.

There are several lake tour charter companies operating on Lake Jocassee. We discovered that Sam (owner/operator of Jocassee Charters) only takes up to 6 people and there is a fixed price for the boat, not per seat. The other boats are the same size but will pack in a dozen or more people. When we arrived at the park to meet Sam, we were told by the park ranger that we could not go to the dock but had to park in the single car lot. We called Sam and, by the time we parked, he had brought the boat to where we were and was ready for us to board. Because there were only 6 of us joining him, we were able to bring 2 coolers, 2 camera bags, a couple of larger bags of towels, etc. We saw other charted pontoon boats our same size packed shoulder to shoulder with passengers. All looked like they were enjoying their lake tours but having the boat to ourselves made the time really super for all of us to have plenty of room to sit, stand, walk around, even lie in the sun. He told us about the history, geography and rules of the lake and park. Sam went right up to several magnificent waterfalls, took us to a wonderful swimming spot, and to a place where the sloping rock was smooth enough to make a great slide into the water. He climbed it and helped our young grandkids to position themselves on the rock for the best ride and then helped any adults who wanted to try it. We were able to stay in any one area as long as we wanted. The kids got tired on the way back to the car and spread out towels and used safety floats as pillows and relaxed. The main part of the boat has a double canopy so any of us who wanted to be in the shade could do so. He said that half of it could be removed for those who wanted more sun but all of us were very happy to stay in the shade and away from the hot Summer sun! (The other charter boats had single canopies and most of the passengers sat in the sun the whole time.) He also does fishing tours and told us about helping folks locate and catch different types of fish. He only takes up to 4 when fishing and, again, the whole boat is chartered not just a seat on the boat. We had a fantastic time and can wholeheartedly recommend Sam and his great boat!
