Nice hike to the water falls
Feb 2021 • Couples
Short hike to the water falls but very nice even in freezing weather . You can also go to Boulder field when it's open.

Hickory Run

First time at Hickory Run. Definitely going to return. The boulder field was a sight to see and the Shades of Death trail was beautiful. Hoping to camp sometime in 2021.

Overcrowded with out -of-staters during Covid
Aug 2020
I’ve driven thru and around HRST hundreds of times. Went their 2 weekends in a row. Overcrowded with people thinking they were at the beach, schlepping coolers, and strollers to the waterfall. The pot smoking was enough to get a contact high! I will come back once Covid is over.

Cabins are far from the showers
Sep 2020
Before booking, check location of the shower room! It was a shock that we had to drive to shower and that the facilities were pit toilets that were not that clean for a midweek visit.

Amazing in every way!
Oct 2020 • Couples
We visited for the weekend and hiked 4 trails. All of them were so different and AMAZING! I would go on a weekday or early on a weekend. It was packed after 11am to 4pm-ish.

Met Yogi the Bear
Sep 2020 • Friends
We had a great time! I havent been camping since I was a girl scout and my best friend, her Fiancé, and their son had never been. Great for a first time. Hawk Falls was beautiful but crowded, not much fish to catch and what was there was tiny. Highlight of the trip was Yogi the Black Bear coming into our camp and taking our card game.

Wonderful and Accessible
Sep 2020
We're in our mid-80s so our "hiking days" have been replaced by "walking-days". And Hickory Park was great for us. Of course the Boulder Field is a must see. Parking is within 50 yds. of the field. The info board will give you a good overview of how the field was created over time. But, it may promote an interest to learn more - particularly for children.

Put that smart phone in the glove compartment and enjoy Mother Nature.

Beautiful Nature At Its Best.
Sep 2020 • Solo
I visited Hickory Run State Park with my dog to check out some trails, beautiful views and discover what nature had to offer here. It was a day well spent. A lot of walking and the trails weren't difficult at all, very manageable for dogs. Supportive shoes came in handy nonetheless. Access to Boulder Field, Sand Spring Lake, Hickory Run Chapel and Shades of Death Trail are easily accessible and within very reasonable distance of each other. There is a bathroom at the parking lot to Boulder Field but use it as last resort. I was pretty grossed out. Overall, absolutely gorgeous park. We saw many people fishing. There are plenty of spots to tuck away off of the paths to stop and catch your breath, take in the scenery or enjoy a picnic. Lake Harmony is only 13 minute drive away if interested.

Crowded on Memorial Day Weekend
Sep 2020 • Couples
We took our motorhome here and paid for a week. In September it was nearly empty. The park ranger told us this was definitely the down time. The leaves hadn’t changed yet. When theyeded change the park gets full.
We came again on Labor Day weekend 2020 two years later...-& wow! It was crowded. We started on the Hawk Trail, but Turned around because it was crowded. We took the Boulder Trail instead. The boulder field is quite impressive!

Great park in the Poconos
Sep 2020 • Couples
Campground.... We stayed in the pet loop in a site that was spacious, shady, very quiet. Could easily walk to the camp store and the park office. Loved it.

Hiking... We only had time for a couple of trails so chose the two most popular... Shades of Death and Hawk Falls. Both were excellent choices. I do wish, though, that people would realize that the signs telling them what not to do, apply to them. No swimming... Clearly posted in multiple languages. No climbing.. Clearly posted. Yet so many people were in the water and had climbed to the falls. Their antics spoil the beautiful natural sight for the rest of us. On the plus side, there were 2 park rangers hiking down to Hawk Falls as I was hiking back. Hope they nailed some miscreants.

Boulder Field.... A one of a kind place. Be sure to read the history of how it came to be... You might be surprised at the inaccuracy of your assumptions. And definitely walk out at least a little way on the boulders... Just do so carefully so you don't slip or lose your balance.
