I went to this free museum and have to say it was one of the best tours I've ever been on. The tour leader knew all about every piece of furniture, artifact in every room and could answer any questions you had. The rooms were divided by time period and all the things in the room were either owned by the Parry family or were from the same time period. No reconstructions or simulated stuff. Also, nothing was behind velvet ropes. You could actually touch the things (gently), although we were told not to sit on the 18th century furniture for safety reasons. It added a lot to the presentation to be able to do that. Well presented, and well worth your time. Warning: there are stairs- no elevator, so people with mobility problems should be aware of it. Also, it lasts about an hour.

Built in 1784 by Benjamin Parry this 18th century Georgian style home has two stories featuring 11 period decorated rooms from 1775 to 1900. It reflects the five generations of Parry's that resided in the home. It is also on the National Registry of Historical Places. Each room has been curated to a specified historical period and the furnishings, décor, lighting and original wallpaper and paint colors have been authenticated. Some objects are original while others are (1775-1800) features rare portraits of Benjamin Franklin & General Charles Lee, Fort Lee, N.J. was named after the general. It also has an early map of New Hope (1748) made by Benjamin Parry. The Empire Bedroom (1825-1850) features American Empire furniture, feather mattress dated to 1840 and grated fireplace which could accommodate coal the fuel source of the day. The earlier rooms reflect the use of candles while the later rooms reflect the use of whale oil and kerosene in keeping with the time period. The Colonial Entrance Hall (1775-1800) has a cherry candle stand made in 1789 by Benjamin Parry which was the lighting instrument of many homes of the period. The Pennsylvania Windsor bench, sisal rope carpeting of the stairs, the color on the trim and white plaster walls also reflect the period. Of particular interest are two plates by Paul Revere in 1765. One displays a Stamp Act Obelisk. Tours conducted by the New Hope Historical Society are filled with historical information and generational stories passed down through the years. From May to November tours are conducted from 1-5 pm on Sat/Sun. There are free admission days.

The Parry Mansion is a beautifully preserved piece of PA history. The docents tell interesting stories about the home's history and the people who lived in it. Go on the tour - you'll be glad you did!

Tours are docent led. When we visited (July) they appeared to run every half hour. We checked the "next tour" time on the front door, went back into town to look around, and arrived back about five minutes early. There is no fee, but you can leave a donation. They don't pressure you to do so but I'd say most people did leave something as it was a good tour. The Parry Mansion tour starts off with a surprisingly entertaining ~10 minute video on the history of Benjamin Parry and his role in the history of New Hope. Our guide was pretty well informed on the house, the family, and New Hope history. The mansion was home to five generations of the Parry family and various rooms are decorated to reflect the style and furnishing of time periods across those generations.
I think the Parry Mansion is worth a visit if you are going to be in New Hope.

My fiance and I stumbled upon Parry Mansion while wandering around New Hope and decided to go in for their free tour. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of information and interesting things to see within the house. Each room is decorated to represent a different era where the Parrys lived in the house.
I was really impressed at the authentic centuries-old objects (such as original rugs, bibles, furniture) that they maintained in the house without any barriers and obtrusive "DO NOT TOUCH" signs. It really gave the tour an intimate, reverent feel. Most of my fellow tour members were smart enough to not touch anything out of respect and to help preserve the items. They have donation boxes but we were never once haggled or hassled about donating. What a pleasant find in the middle of a hot summer day!
TIP: Go to the mansion a little earlier than anticipated during weekends/tourist season to check the next "tour begins" time so you can plan ahead. Also I would recommend waiting in front of the mansion about 10 mins before your tour, as they have an occupancy limit and can't take more than about 12 people per tour b/c of the size of the rooms.

I had every intention of touring the Parry Mansion today, but when I approached the house, I saw swarms of yellow jackets in the front year! Instead, I toured New Hope itself and browsed at the shops and galleries. As for the town of New Hope, I would give it a high rating, but not the Parry Mansion. Nevertheless, one can see the interior rooms on their website.

We stopped in New Hope to break up a long day of driving. A multitude of sights, sounds, people and shops are squeezed in on both sides of a two lane road. Parking on the street is 20 minutes for a quarter, you can also download an app to pay for parking. The Historical Society building is well placed in the middle of town and has two family friendly restrooms, as well as helpful advice. The sidewalks can be a bit narrow at times but everyone was considerate when walking.

As many times as I have been to New Hope and it has been many many times over many years, I have never taken the time to visit the Parry House. So today after a very pleasant lunch at Marsha Browns my companion and I decided to go. The tour was free and a guide was instantly available and sat us down in front of a screen to watch a short video about Benjamin Parry and his business in the area. As soon as the video was over we were off on our tour of the house. It was just the two of us and Laurie (I hope I spelled that right) our guide impressed us with her warmth, style and knowledge. She shared anecdotes, historical tidbits, and fun little idioms with the explanation of how they originated...If you are in the area and the sign is out for tours...I say GO!

Enjoyable tour of the Parry Mansion and it was Free! The only thing I noticed was tours are done every 30 minutes and they start the tour earlier if they have people waiting so if you go and come back at the time listed on the door they may have already started the next tour. We saw this happen twice.
