Authentic look into mining. Take your time and look at everything and remember he dug it all out and still going. Yes, it cost money but so does up keep public liability and so on. Doesn’t feel closed in easy to walk around.

Well worth a visit. $20 to go in the working mine. A good way to see how it all works and get a good understanding of how opal mining works. Nice bloke who runs it. Visited with young children and was able to take them down the mine.

This is the real thing. My uncle who used to be an Opal miner explained that this is what it is (was) like underground. It gives you a pretty good idea of the miners life.

A fairly quick and uninformative briefing is given before descending the 100+ steps into the mine. There were six of us - “sorry, you’ll have to share two torches. The other have got flat batteries”. OK.
There were three shafts to visit when we got down into the mine. Just broken rocks.
As for my interest in learning something, anything, about opals and/or mining - I guess that I’ll have to Google it.
Wasted $20.00.

A one man enterprise, and one of the few mines open when we were there. A bit overpriced, but fairly interesting self guided walk down spiral staircase and along mine passages. He said the opals he was selling in his shop were from the mine but we weren't sure about that!

Compared to another self-guided underground mine tour my wife and I undertook for the same money ($20 each), this one didn’t offer as much in terms of information supplied, organisation, other things to see and do, and overall entertainment/education experience. Recommend doing the guided tour rather than self-paced tour because there is very little information (eg written explanations of the mining process, etc) supplied underground.

This is a walk down mine which will take you about an hour to view and appreciate the conditions these miners worked in. From the straight cut trees forming supports for the roof to the abandoned mining equipment and narrow channels the miners crawled through. No need to worry about it being hot as it’s about 21/22C all year round but if you are required to wear a hard hat which is not an issue unless you are a hair fanatic

This supposedly the easiest underground mine to get into. At $20 per adult I did think it was a little expensive for what you got. You explore the mine by yourself. There is a lot of information on the walls but the kids (6,7) did not find it that entertaining once they had run to the bottom and back. Probably a better option for adults

We enjoyed our visit but the exhibit really needs refreshing and updating. The mannequins are falling apart and need some TLC. The written bulletins are informative however it would be better if the past and present day mining techniques were presented.

We found the price of visiting the mine a little expensive, but it was a pretty interesting walk underground to look at a mine. Make sure you wear your helmet as there are plenty of places to bump your head.

I went on this tour, but I can't remember what the old Iron bed was used for that was down in the mine!
