Beautiful museum, very open and light, with a number of interesting artifacts and a great gift shop. The highlight was being able to tour the US Brig Niagara. Harry, the guide, was informative and told you all the interesting facts, without boring you. Sometimes people drone on, not on this tour, it is a beautiful ship and a nice place to visit.

Visited the last Friday of August and the museum was conveniently located right next to the Hampton Inn where I was staying. Admission was $7 and the museum contained many exhibits and artifacts of maritime adventures on Lake Erie including the War of 1812 against the British. The museum is also located right next to the Library. There were weapons, artifacts, sailing materials and navigational instruments as well as other artifacts. The museum had 2-3 assistants that were describing local history as well as sailing life on the lake. Fortunately, the Niagara was docked behind the museum short distance away, so I got to tour the ship as an added treat. My visit of the museum lasted a little over an hour which included taking photos and speaking to staff members. I highly recommend a visit here if you enjoy naval history as I do.

We stopped here during a recent (and first time visit) to Erie. My dh wanted to see the USS Niagra, but unfortunately, it was not in port while we visited. We did enjoy the museum, which starts with a short film, and the docent we had added a lot of interesting and helpful information while the film played. There is a lot of information and displays. For a non-maritime person it was a bit all too much for me, but I read as much as I could and enjoyed the exhibits. If this is of interest to you, it is a good place to go.

This is a super cool museum. My 10 year old son read everything. He loved it! It says alot when a museum greatly draws the attention of a 10 year old. He couldn't wait to tell my husband everything he learned. The staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we weren't passing through town at a time that we were able to take a ride on the Niagara. I regret that.

This review would not be complete without mentioning how super cool the gift shop is. My family loves gift shops. We visit them all over the country. Very rarely do we find a gift shop this great. The prices are very reasonable. The size of the shop is impressive. The variety and quality of items is equally impressive. I cannot recommend this shop enough. My kids and I came home with a large sack full of cool souvenirs. My husband is a fan of pirate and ship items. I am so happy that I was able to bring him home a few gifts that he absolutely loved!! I hope to have the pleasure of visiting again.

If you want a brief history lecture and lots of information and time spent on raising and lowering sails, this is a trip for you! The crew was hard-working and friendly but the boat basically goes nowhere, maybe a one mile circle at most. You spend the entire "trip" staring at the Bicentennial Tower. 1.5 hours for $25 is reasonable if you don't mind not really sailing any distance and mostly just sitting on a boat. Oh, and they accept tips, so have some cash. (We didn't!)

Came to see the USS Niagara and got so much more for our time and experience. Loved the lessons that the docent shared with us about history and the background of the ship. We were able to witness volunteers working all the while on renovating the ship and preparing it for passengers to cruise in July hopefully. It was wonderful to see how people traveled and lived on board during the great era of tall ships.

I love history and have been to many museums and this was one of my favorites. Aside from the huge museum itself, we were able to go out into the bay and tour a replica of the Brig Niagara, we went on board and had a very detailed tour of the ship. Our guide Jay was great and you could tell he really enjoyed what he was doing. We were there for almost 3 hours and could have stayed longer but headed out because we were hungry! Admission is $7 which I thought was more than reasonable. I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone!

We spent a rainy day at the Maritime Museum. The displays are well presented but some areas are a little dark so reading can be hard at times. As another reviewer wrote, there is a lot of reading that goes along with the displays, but it is well done. The volunteers are knowledgeable if you have questions. The admission price is fair and there are discounts for AAA members and students.
