Gilbert House Children's Museum (formerly known as A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village) is a private nonprofit children's museum connected to downtown Salem's Riverfront Park. Founded in 1989, Gilbert House provides innovative and stimulating educational experiences which spark children's natural curiosity. The Museum's mission is to "inspire children to learn through creative play." This is accomplished through fun and challenging exhibits, camps, birthday parties, membership opportunities and outreach programs in the sciences, arts, and humanities. The Museum is composed of three historic houses; the Rockenfield House, Gilbert House and Parrish House.

My grandson is autistic and the museum allow him to try out a variety of tactile experiences and to socially interact at the same time. This was an enjoyable visit and the little guy learned and explored freely there.

Lots of activities for the kids to do hands on in the houses. Has an outside play fort that is a maze to get around in that kids love.

Clean, very interesting, well laid out, very helpful staff. A great peek into the past for many and loads of enjoyment for the younger folks. I highly recommend the Gilbert House Museum followed by a ride on the nearby carousel. Salem has many interesting attractions.

This is a great place for children of all ages, young and old. I took my grandchildren and they loved it. We have gone without them and still had a great time. Lots of nostalgia, and lots of fun.
