About
Crater Rock Museum houses the finest displays of rocks, minerals and gems on the West Coast. Exhibits include a collection of world-class minerals, collection of petrified woods, fossils, Native American artifacts, and much more! The museum gift shop is filled with the works of local artists from the Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Society as well as rocks and mineral specimens for sale from around the world. The museum started out as a humble "shack" where locals could visit and share "rock hounding" stories. It's grown a lot since then. The original 5,400 square foot museum is now more than 12,000 square feet, with community meeting rooms, a larger gift shop, workshop, and exhibit areas. We now have a rock sluice in our rock-yard for kids (and grown-up kids) to use! The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Call for admission fees. The second Saturday of the month is Kids Day. Guided tours are available by appointment.

Thank you so much for your visit and review of the Crater Rock Museum. We are happy your grandson enjoyed his time here. I hope he visited our Rock Yard and Sluice and found some treasures he could take home. We look forward to your return visit as the displays change periodically.

Fun and Interesting
Sep 2019 • Family
We wanted to visit Crater Lake National Park and my adult son found this spot which we decided to visit first. There are many great displays and it’s very educational. We enjoyed the fossils and the glowing rocks. The staff was friendly and the gift shop and museum were very clean and nice. If you are in the area stop in.

Wow First time in but not the last
Aug 2019
The building is huge, room after room of world class rocks. The arrow heads in displays are exceptional. There are Dino bones and crystals like I have never seen. There is a display of scrimshaw on whale tooth. All of the work appears to be sailor-art and dates back to the 1800's. I understand that they update their displays regularly and will be adding a display of figures carved by the Eskimos of Alaska and the First Nation Peoples of Canada soon. We liked it so much, we paid for a membership. We will be back.

Very Pleasant Surprise
Aug 2019 • Couples
We had read zero reviews prior to just wandering in as we happened by. What a pleasant surprise. It was much larger than we anticipated and had an excellent collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, and a few miscellaneous Indian items or scrimshaw exhibits. One could easily spend a hour or two here.

We took my 4 year old grandson who loves rocks and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Soo much to see and something for everyone. He especially loved the fossils. Such beautiful displays and and great gift store where we purchased a few rocks to take home. We are planning a trip back with the rest of the family.

Great Experience
Jun 2019 • Family
My grandson (almost six years old) was visiting with his Dad from the Seattle area so I took him to this wonderful museum. Chance was so engaged and just excited about everything. My husband and I had visited several months ago and were also impressed with how much there was to see.
The displays are set up well and I was glad to take Chance somewhere to learn things. He bought a couple of rocks for himself and carried them around with him the whole weekend. This is a must see place this summer.

An Amazing Place!
Feb 2019 • Family
I was invited to join my daughter, my 4 grandchildren and our local homeschool group, in a visit to the Crater Rock Museum. We all like pretty rocks. Well, we were blown away by this museum! Martin gave us an excellent presentation. Then on to see the many, impressive rooms full of rocks, fossils and more from all over the world. This is an excellent collection! I plan to go back and may become a member.

superb

I went with others in my family who are very much "rock enthusiasts" and I enjoyed it as much as they did. Very interesting displays about local native American artifacts, florescent rocks and all manner of rocks/crytals/gems/petrified wood etc. Very fun way to spend a couple of hours and if I lived there many of their classes look very interesting.

An excellent place to explore rocks, minerals, fossils, and artifacts.
Mar 2018 • Friends
Crater Rock Museum has been, for decades, a great place to explore and learn about rocks, minerals, fossils, and artifacts. You can also join their club (for a small fee) and get access to rock cutting and polishing machines and tools. Highly recommended for kids and adults.

Thank you for visiting the Crater Rock Museum. I am happy to hear you enjoyed it! Not only is this a wonderful place for locals to visit (and visit again), but for out-of-town folks it makes for a pleasant morning or afternoon visit. If you are local - we hope to see you again. For those that are here a limited time, come and see us!
